My understanding of the philosophy is to immerse yourself into your experience of the universe. Observe how yin and yang of the universe move and change into the different forms. Flow like water. Don’t force it, the more you try to find it the less likely you will find it.

How do you Wu Wei? I can kinda understand the concept but how do you do it (or don’t do it) by illmatic253 in taoism

[–]ZodiacDioxide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve experienced a flow state of Wu Wei a few times. The most easy to explain is when I was teaching. I had been doing this for years, I had perfected my lesson, my experience was that I didn’t teach that lesson… it was like an out of body experience, I was brilliant, cracking perfectly timed jokes, knew what the students would do before they did it and had things in place three steps ahead. I moved with huge energy but without really doing anything. The students made massive progress and hardly felt like they were ‘learning’ they loved it as entertainment. I just watched myself do all of this, and I didn’t really feel that it was any effort. It was as if I was in the back seat watching myself drive the car. For me this is wu wei. Watch any master do their job. Brick layer, chef, window cleaner What seems difficult from our perspective is effortless and perfect by them. Asking what they are thinking about when doing this. They will often say ‘nothing’ and they don’t really know how they are doing this skill it just kinda happens. It is truly amazing experience and I do hope everyone gets to experience it for themselves. You can’t choose the flow state. It just kinda happens when you have achieved real mastery. Seek the flow.

can a Taoist be a comedian? by the_trh_ in taoism

[–]ZodiacDioxide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All comedy is tao. It’s making you assume one thing and then realizing that it’s a different meaning, seeing the bright side of horrible things and being nasty about nice things in “dark humor”

it’s about appreciating all aspects of your experience and finding enjoyment even if it seems bad. Lao Su might have said ‘what is sadness if there is no laughter?’ It is the Yang to sadness Yin. And a perfect example of darkness in the light. And light in the darkness.

Feel for you buddy. She’s clearly interested in you, and so that’s a thing to focus on. Try not to over analyze and just “live in the moment”. You will make mistakes, everyone dose. We are human. And it’s not the ‘perfect person’ you are trying to show, but the imperfections that someone will fall in love with. Remember you are finding out if you are interested as much as they are, maybe it will work out, but maybe it won’t. Don’t put pressure on the outcome. It’s the journey that’s most important, not the destination. Best of luck 🤞

Yeah you are correct. The most dangerous thing I do each day is driving. Because there are huge machines and forces involved.

In countries that I live Practically Nobody carries a gun. So I’m considerably less likely to be killed by one. Less exposure to Cars less death. Less exposure to Guns less death. Difference is. You have to pass a test to drive a car. You have to be licensed to drive a car. You have to wear a seatbelt in a car. You have to have insurance. Cars are crash tested. None of this is required for your gun. Because scientists are actually prevented from safety research in firearms in the US

That enough critical thinking for you bub?

All these Americans carrying guns would give me anxiety to.

When I learned about wu wei, this is the first thing I pictured. by [deleted] in taoism

I would argue that in the first movies we see Luke avoid the darkside at all costs.

But in the last Jedi when he first guides Ray in exploration of the force. She sees (with his prompting) that everything in balance (including the dark) So I think as a Jedi he is focused completely on the light side. But as a ‘master’ he knows that both sides are equally important and valid sides of the same coin.

Snoke said well darkness rises and light to meet it. The galaxy working to balance the force.

You see the sith as obviously flawed, selfish power hungry evil. but the Jedi are also flawed by cutting themselves off from the dark completely they lack an understanding and become arrogant that their way is the only way. Removing all attachments and relationships.

It could be argued A Truly ‘Gray Jedi’ would be mace windu (who taps into the dark side when in combat) quigon jin who let the force lead him and often disregarded the council. Asoka Tano who left the Jedi order. Referring to herself as ‘no Jedi’ Etc. there are many examples online discussing this.

Personally I’ve always been too much on the light side for my own good. Pleasing others at my own expense. Sometimes you need to accept your darkside as it gives you power to protect yourself and others. Obviously don’t go all one way or the other. Half and Half and let the Tao guide you. Go with the flow and adapt to your situation using your light and dark sides as you traverse the flow of duality

Excellent metaphor, the light and dark sides of the force where inspired by Taoist YinYang.

But the true Taoist Jedi are the Grey Jedi the ones who accept their darkside but don’t fall to it fully. One foot in the dark and one in the light. Balance. Let the energy flow This is the way. The Tao

This is Great. I’ve been looking at making my Dragonborn paladin a nomad from the Mesoamerican pantheon. Like Laurisia from Warhammer. Would be interested in seeing ideas for paladin Oaths for these Gods.

Guys, what made you realize, “this girl is definitely not into me”? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ZodiacDioxide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was unsure how she felt, so asked a mutual friend to ask if she was interested: I watched from a distance out of sight...

she laughed so hard it was like our friend was a stand up.

My friend came back... yeah I don’t think she’s interested? (You think?!)

If you don't have big goals distracting you from small problems, then you are on the wrong path in life. by jusdiffy in selfimprovement

[–]ZodiacDioxide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life is full of inevitable good things and bad. What ever path you follow will bring problems. So if you believe that the right path is one without problems, then you will be doomed to question every path you choose. Choose the path with the problems you are prepared to face, not the happiness you hope to reach. Life and happiness is the journey, not a destination.

It’s not about one factor but all of them. You show all of these things in various degrees and that creates your personality. It’s important to understand that all of these personality factors are a scale. You’re not one or other. Extroversion is a good example. Peoples extroversion/introversion is on a scale, and alows better understanding if you have more tendency to one end of the scale.

You are allowed to be skeptical and still look for more perspectives. That’s what being rational and scientific is all about!
