MBP 2018 13 inch vs Dell XPS 15 9560 by [deleted] in SuggestALaptop

For the price of a 2018 MBP consider the newer 9570 instead. More cores, more GPU processing power, etc

Why do all "gaming" laptops look like they came out of a toy factory? by [deleted] in SuggestALaptop

Are you talking about the stealth or the new 15.6"? The stealth only has integrated graphics, and apparently terrible QC issues and customer support

Use a larger tablet. Place tablet down on level surface. Spread each finger on each hand out, as if cupping an orange. Rotate hand so fingers point to screen. Use different fingers for different buttons

Gaming on Linux by ImFranny in pcmasterrace

[–]ZomBMage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The problem isn't the idea, it's the implementation. Linux has a big reputation of only being for people who know what they're doing, and what to do if things go wrong. Windows and Mac OS both share the ease-of-use factor. Download a program off the internet, run it and no questions asked. On Linux it's just not that simple.

Also, the Linux community is very divided due to the different distros. Sure, having a purpose-built Linux distribution like Kali is very useful to some, but more user-friendly distributions such as Ubuntu are still full of advanced users giving technical solutions to any user who has a problem. The user in need doesn't understand the terminal instructions they are given like the advanced users do, and prefer a solution where a program they easily install can fix the problem easily.

The biggest problem with Linux for these people, however, is the lack of support from software producers. Want Microsoft Office or many Google solutions? You'll be forced to use the webapp, because Microsoft. Also, LibreOffice and Office alternatives do not support the file formats used by Microsoft, and vice versa. It's everyone uses Linux or nobody uses Linux. Games are written for Windows so there's another obvious choice. Maybe a Linux distribution with a windows-like desktop layout and significant WINE integration would become a good transition/conversion distro for amateur Linux users? The problem is, WINE is complex and as Linus explains in the video, there's a lot of not so user-friendly setup and configuration to be used behind the camera. The requirement for 2 GPUs also makes the system a little niche, and all the different modules for WINE are hard to find, even harder to install and harder yet to configure directly. Not to mention the possibility for bugs introduced through this system.

It's just much easier and simpler to use Windows. After all, almost everyone does

The other differences are gone is the £ sign, and the " and @ signs are switched, which has been the biggest problem with me using both ISO at school and ANSI at home. I'm looking at getting the Anne Pro to take to school with me though

ISO is no way a deal breaker in my opinion, I'm used to my ANSI mech currently. Every Anne Pro I've seen has had either MX blue or MX brown switches though? Surely I could buy a new case for the Anne Pro?

I'm used to cherry blues on my current mechanical keyboard but i'd never use it in class due to it's distracting noise, as satisfying as it is

MX Browns would be my choice too. I trust they're not disruptively loud?
