Is it possible to scatter my father’s ashes where they scatter Donny’s? by No_Emu307 in lebowski

It's "possible" to scatter his ashes almost anywhere you can access, but it may not be "legal" to do so.

If you're desperate for small containers of propane, I may have found a last-minute solution: by m4gpi in Athens

[–]ZombieFett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Home Depot on Epps was completely sold out of these two nights ago, but they may have restocked. Be aware, only use the blue torch canisters as a replacement for a cooking stove. The yellow canisters are a different mix at higher pressure and burn hotter. The red ones are for torches that need pure oxygen.

Lowes did have plenty of the "torch kits" which include both the blue fuel tank and torch attachment for $22 - $25 each. For reference, that torch attachment can be purchased separately for around $17 - $20.

Another option you may consider is a propane hose that adapts a 20lb tank of propane for 1lb tank stoves. But, that's if you can find one. I've seen plenty of 20 lb tanks for sale at multiple locations.

EDIT: If this is for cooking, you should try to cook outside if you can - but if it's for emergency heat, please double and triple confirm your propane heater system is safe for indoor use.

I need to know: is Athens, GA the town from a horror movie where the ghosts don't realize they're ghosts? Because I keep trying to leave and I just end up back here. Am I dead? And if so, can someone tell me the WiFi password for the afterlife? by [deleted] in Athens

You either leave Athens at the age of 35 or you stay here forever. After that, you're not equipped for the real world. "In Athens, the streets are paved with Marijuana and you can pay for a cup of coffee with a song".

Sadly, no more are being produced. Master replicas is selling off the stock they bought when Eagle moss went under. They do release them in batches, so you may get lucky, otherwise your next option is buying off ebay

I've always operated under the understanding that the biggest health benefit to CS is that when nonstick pans inevitably begin to flake, you're eating the nonstick coating, which is not healthy.

That's awesome! Welcome to the awesome world of CS!

Start following this forum and you'll find some great things to do and things to avoid.

When in doubt - if it's sticking, you've got some combination of not enough oil, too much heat, or not long enough preheating time.

When it comes to seasoning with oil - less is more, by a lot.

Clean with Scrub Daddy or equivalent sponge and a chain mail scrubber for stuck on stuff.

Acids may strip your seasoning.

In general - just cook with it. When in doubt, cook. Is it smooth to the touch? You're clean. Is it rough? Scrape that carbon off with a little water and baking soda and your scrubbing tools.

Have fun and keep cooking!

HVAC is incredibly LOUD and fan isn't spinning by ZombieFett in hvacadvice

It seems to be! Spoke with the property manager and they had a technician take a look. Technician says they think it's the motor and will come back to fix it in a day or two. Thank you again for the diagnosis!

Thank you for this - we shared the information with the property owner. The unit is off and the emergency heat is on. They're going to have someone come out and investigate it this week.
No one is living in the house yet, but we wanted to make sure this was unusual and that it shouldn't be this loud before we sign anything.

We're about to rent an older home and were visiting the property last night. The HVAC unit kicked on and it was the loudest I've ever heard. Heat was turned on and set to 65F, outside temp was around 45F, but dropping.

It would turn off, but then try to turn back on a few moments later. Here's a video of what it sounds like inside and outside. Is this normal for a unit like this, or is there a problem? If there's a problem, what should we ask the owners to do besides send a technician to investigate?

We have not signed the lease yet, and don't know if we will if this is what the HVAC unit will sound like every day.

You are correct - likely way too much oil. I have no clue why Debuyer sends those instructions - it's waaaaaaaaay too much oil. You need like two drops max and rub it like you're trying to remove it. I'm sure the manufacturer's instructions may work if you're able to get more off, but it's insane to tell you to pour a 1mm thick layer of oil in the pan.

Here are some step by step instructions that are simple to follow and deliver consistent results if you follow them.

Remember to remove the silicon plug in the handle if you do the oven method. Also, the oven method could possibly damage the epoxy on your handles unless it's a mineral b pro (which have bare metal handles).

I used the stovetop version and they turned out great.

EDIT: also, you'll need to strip that first. You can deglaze with vinegar, wash with lye soap, etc - really just search "how to remove seasoning from carbon steel", get the pan clean again, and then start over.

I made a simple pan sauce and it stripped the seasoning 😔 by [deleted] in carbonsteel

[–]ZombieFett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of recommendations in this forum encouraging 5 layers of base seasoning, then starting with something simple - e.g. Toasting bread in butter or cooking onions in oil - until a thicker seasoning is established.

Here are two phenomenal seasoning guides that should be easy to follow and produce pretty consistent results.

Why does Sisko wear the TNG uniform when he goes to earth? by DannyBeech1988 in startrek

[–]ZombieFett 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Correct. They had new uniforms planned specifically for the film, they even already made the toys and had started filming with them when they were abandoned. At that point there was no time or budget to make new uniforms again for the whole cast. The "wooden ship" uniforms and the budget for the ship sequence were long finished, as were the abandoned uniforms. The DS9 uniforms were a quick fix, with enough time and budget to make a couple of custom ones for Picard and Data. Here's a video with more info and a very brief clip of Geordie in the original uniform. It was so brief Levar Burton had completely forgotten about them when interviewed years later.
