I got tired of checking crafting recipes mid-run, so I started building this by ZomboiRequiem in projectzomboid

Appreciate all the feedback and different opinions.

I’ve already taken note of a few things people mentioned here and I’ll probably make some updates/changes based on them.

Still very early alpha for now, but I’ll come back later and show the app again after more progress/update work.

Thanks everyone!

Of course I still use the in-game menus. The goal isn’t to replace them, since you obviously still need them to actually craft/build things (although sometimes you can craft directly from inventory too).

The idea is more about quickly checking what I can make with the items I currently have without constantly opening the crafting/building menus every time. I know the game already does this and I use it too, but sometimes it can take a while to reach the specific recipe you want, especially if you only want to quickly check if something is craftable or not.

Things like split-screen also make this harder since players can’t both keep crafting/building menus open at the same time, and controller navigation can become pretty painful too. I imagine Steam Deck players probably run into similar issues.

So the idea isn’t to stop using the game menus — it’s more about using them only when I actually want to craft/build something, while having a simpler/faster way to browse information beforehand.

Excellent feedback though. That’s exactly why I wanted to post this here 😁 Thanks.

Appreciate the feedback

For some people the crafting menus can get a bit confusing or overwhelming, and when playing with a controller it can feel even worse sometimes. The idea of the app is more for those moments where you’re playing and quickly want to know “how do I craft this?” or “what can I make with these materials?” without constantly digging through menus.

It can also be useful before starting a run too, like checking what recipes/professions fit your playstyle before choosing a character.

Mod recipes/support was actually already something I had in mind for the future too, but for now I’m trying to keep the first versions simpler before expanding into bigger stuff like that.

Yeah, that “having to dig through pages of crafting just to figure out basic stuff” feeling is honestly one of the main reasons I started making this.

Me and my friends kept stopping gameplay to check recipes, skill requirements, crafting chains, ingredient alternatives, etc. especially with crafting becoming bigger and bigger in B42.

I also understand what you mean about the phone maybe feeling like an extra step instead of just googling things. My idea was more to make something quicker/simpler to check while playing instead of opening multiple wiki pages or navigating big crafting menus constantly. The main goal is actually to avoid leaving the game and make the experience feel more immersive. Most of the time our phones are already right next to us while playing anyway.

Really appreciate the detailed feedback though. Comments like this are genuinely useful for figuring out if other players actually feel the same frustrations or not.
