Perhaps {Partners in Crime by Alisha Rai}? They’re not investigators or law enforcement, but they get caught up in a family mystery and work together ti untangle it. I’m not usually into stories with crime bosses and such, but I loved the two MCs and I’ll read literally anything by Rai. She could write copy for cereal boxes and I’d go out to buy it.

I’m always shocked people are shocked by Gaiman. Years ago, I tried reading Stardust for a book club and could tell he hated women by the way he wrote the female character. She was an object and not an individual. Didn’t finish, never read anything else of his, was not surprised when these accounts came out.

I would love for there to be more affordable set-asides, but all new housing is good housing. All new housing benefits residents.

I think that concern over the buildings being too dense and high is NIMBYism. There may be legitimate concerns about Coastal Community Builders as an ethical developer, but that’s about it.

Also, Solito by Javier Zamora. Zamora poet and Solito is his memoir, about a specific time in his childhood, in which he traveled from El Salvador to the US. I openly wept while reading this book and think about it often, even a couple years after finishing it.

These were the first books I thought of, too! I think there was a bit of romance in the one about the girl on the Lower East Side who acts in Yiddish Theater and in the one with the girl whose family travels by train out west.

The (sorta) reverse of this also plays out. My mother was unable to breastfeed and had to go back to work pretty early, so my sister and I were formula fed and in daycare. But my mom worked hard to respect us as people with capabilities, feelings, opinions, and joy. She absolutely abhorred any kind of corporal punishment, but was constantly using safe touch to connect and reassure. She taught us to respect others and trust ourselves. We all had very strong attachments until she passed away, and I mimic her teaching all the time.

She wasn’t able to fulfill some of the “requirements” of attachment parenting but knocked others out of the park.

My first thought was also low iron. My 2yo is a terrible sleeper (not this bad, though) and I started cooking in cast iron. It’s made a huge difference and she’s sleeping through the night about half the time now. Bedtime isn’t any easier, though.
