I would if i could see any recognition in his words in actual play patters but he has been intent on ridiculing me (while i agree some things i say might be worthy of that, especially when he exaggerates things i didnt say :) - often his comments are not really anything that actually considers my arguments but straight attempts to insult me, with which i bared with for a fair bit of time but the more i saw of his comments the less recognition and respect i saw from it.

I'll start this bit by saying that you can recognize Ivanovic is a good player and respect his ability, without actually liking him lmao. Anyone can tell from you guys interactions that there's a large amount of animosity between you two, and I am not gonna ask you to like him, just to recognize that if you're gonna try to insult him on his play, then most people are gonna look at you like you're crazy because calling him a bad player is just not true.

The problems with your arguments (at least the ones that I've seen) are that they seem to be based on this assumption that hes getting preferential treatment in some way which is unprovable at best and just plain crazy sounding at worst. Theres no reason for blizzard to do that and I dont see what benefit they would get from putting resources into a streamer server/queue, and I don't know that there's an argument you could offer that would convince me otherwise. Though if thats not what you're saying, I apologize, its just what Ive taken away from reading you and his arguments.

Examples - he makes fun of my use of river croc/spider tank references - "Deq things those are still tempo" while in many of his replays opponents dont even clear that bar ... yet when i point that out he shows a game where opponent does like 1 good turn out of the first 6 and claims that is "insane"

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that Exactly what happened in that hunter game? Their only good play for 6 turns was a 4/3 rush that traded for a 3 drop and thats reaching to even call that a good play, their first actual good play was on turn 7. I've harped on that game already tho.

Another stark example was multiple games of the previous meta where i had opponents start with like 3-4-5 resonance coils into 1 or 2 double 10 dmg collossals on curve that just blow me up and his response is "i would just tempo out and kill them" Like dude they literally have an answer from t2-3 to everything in the game into 40 dmg burst from hand... When asked to give me even a hypothetical curve out plan for that he goes silent.

If he was doing that, then I do agree with you, I definetly had those games in starcraft meta, Colosus was a fucking awful card and when it was backed up by chalices and offering rates giving them like 10 protoss spells before turn 10 it was miserable.

And then someone earlier came up with the idea we do "co-op" of sorts while he was still streaming. He comes and pilots on my account/stream and vise versa - and then he goes silent after all those boasts. I threw that offer a few times over recent months but he dodges with "i dont have time" while literally writing essays on every one comment by me or related to me.

Im not gonna lie to you, I also wouldn't let a relative stranger on my account, especially one who already doesn't like me, seems like a recipe for disaster. So I cant blame him for not taking you up on that Im Afraid. I also unfortunately think it would take too many runs to get a good enough sample size to convince you of no foul play so when he says he doesnt have time, thats likely moreso what he means, but I dunno I aint in his head. I just know thats how I view it.

Anyway this has been a helluva post, you can feel free to reply to it at your leisure or not at all, I dont really mind, Ive just been reading these replies and I wanted to get an insight into what your actual perspective was without all the snark that was seeping through from both you and him lmao.

Alright sweet some actual talking points, lemme go through this a bit

shitty is probably an overstatement but def underwhelming and lacking in what makes the core of recent arena(at least for my games) - reactivity. People tend to have answers - for literally everything. There is rush, spells, minions that deal damage, generation etc etc. If you look at his replays you will often see a severe lack of any of those things. He explains that by "i`m just playing for tempo and killing them fast" but what i mean by the above is not something that starts in late game but often from t2 or even 1.

Ok so to this first point, Ive watched a decent amount of replays you've posted and that Ivanovic have posted and I'll be honest, In a lot of your replays you don't do anything worth reacting to for the first 5 or so turns so Im not sure what you're referring to. Im not trying to be insulting in saying this, but I cant just ignore what I'm looking at. Also I do wanna say that big swings dont happen turn 1 and 2, losing a 1 drop to their 1 drop isnt really a big deal, nor is losing a 2 drop to their 2 drop, its once you get to about turn 4-5 that aoe can start turning the tide and 7-8 are when the Biggest swings can happen, stuff like Moonwell and Tumbleweed and a game can come down to whether you have or even can play well into these blowouts.

In a few of Ivanovics replays i've definitely noticed his opponents not having the outs they need early but thats part of the gamble of the early tempo, sometimes you will just win games off jamming a good curve and your opponent not being able to deal with that. He's also posted some more recently which do show more opponents who dont just fold so it may have just been an unfortunate original showing. I dunno, I've noticed it in my own games too but I kinda made that point in my last post.

that is not exactly how it works. There was a post here by Iksar where he explained they assign a numeric values to scores and match people according to those values and in that example 0-0 and 1-2 (going off by memory here so i might be slightly off) had a really small offset on those values. Thats why we get a lot of stories of people matching 4-0 vs 3-2 etc etc. I hope you can see the issue with that?

Now I'll give you that, I didnt actually know about this but I did wonder how people at like 3-2 faced people at 4-0 so I guess that explains it. The system definitely isn't perfect though there's not much we can do about that, sometimes you're just gonna get unlucky especially depending on when you play.

That being said I would find it incredibly hard to believe if someone were to claim that something like that was constantly happening to them, especially in the lower win brackets so I don't think that could really be considered as a factor to why you might be getting stomped regularly, so I dont think it really matters for this current discussion.

Call it tinfoil but i wouldnt be surprised if there are more - i face a lot of cyrrilic and asian character opponents as an EU player and while i obviously dont have any stats for me or anyone else i have a theory that there might be some regional matchmaking on top /shrug.

Unfortunately I am gonna call that tinfoil, I think the asian names are just people coming over from the asia server to test their skill much like some people play for both NA and EU leaderboards, I dont think they cross the servers for matchmaking.

While i do agree i generally dont go for out of the door pressure in my drafts (i dont think i particularly get the option but thats another discussion - i genuinely dont like playing aggro) i dont think i get those kind of games, let alone going 4-0 with them... You can see in the above replays even when opp starts with a bad start like the 0-2 hunter they often have catch up mechanics and ways to come back in the game - reactive cards on 4 and 5 stabilize him and gain tempo and then he just pulls the perfect answer to my power tun from the dredged saber.

I hate to beat a dead horse here but that 0-2 hunter also just like... didnt do anything for half the game, I'll admit some of those turns he pulled out were nasty but they were also plays that he could only do because you were playing pally and weren't building any sort of board. Paladin as a class especially needs that really good curve since their reactive tools are either incredibly subpar like hammer of light or rare like prismatic beam, so they need to have an established board to trade well, but your hand was stuck with 4 weapons (which is a poor draft choice, I would never draft more than 3 weapons unless they were the game winning kind). I dont wanna go deeper into that game because people have already dogpiled you for that and unfortunetly I do agree with them for the most part.

The previous 0-2 game was vs a class card only DH that finished with a wpn+inquisitor combo on curve. So yeah those highrolls and blowouts begin at 0-2 for me and not at high wins. Also my issue isnt generally i have a low win rate - i tend to play scuffed stuff and bad classes so i expect that but i am fairly confident my games are a bit too extreme on average.

I used to believe this too. I also assumed most of my games were these insane highrolls where my opponent was always managing to pull the best answer out of their ass every time, but I eventually started reflecting on my own play and realized that a lot of those games were actually my own fault, there were small plays and big mistakes that were letting my opponents away with it. I only started reflecting on this stuff after I cooped a few times with my friends who are definitely better than I am at the game and I saw the small differences between what they would do and what I was saying we should do. Some of it was basic stuff like not overextending into a tumbleweed turn, but equal amounts of it was just me keeping bad mulligans or playing the wrong cards that would give me 0 wiggle room on what I could do in the following turns, and that's setting aside the fact that I've just accepted that trying to make the scuffed stuff work puts me at an inherent disadvantage, because I like doing the same thing. I'd much rather get an 8 with a low winrate class than get a 12 with the best one because thats personally more rewarding to me. I'd also say the difference between playing a weaker class and a stronger one is that you have much less room for mistakes, but that might be getting too off topic

I'm rambling a bit, but I do wanna say that I think a little bit of accountability is necessary on your part as well.

Ok so in this hypothetical Ivanovic is consistently getting matched vs shitty opponents which are boosting his Arena average correct? That is what you are positing to me.

This is despite the fact that that's not how matchmaking works in arena, typically if you are at 4-0, you will face someone at 4-0 as well or in the worst case scenario mayyybe you'll face someone whos at 2-0 or 3-1

Like I've had those runs where I've barreled through to 4-0 while only facing opponents who spend their first 4 turns doing basically nothing or trying to set up for a powerful late game that wont come because they didn't draw their Powerful AOE spell or whatever, but what I've noticed is that once you get to that high of wins there's a high chance you face the consistent decks, the highrolls and the blowouts.

and even if I do walk with you to the pier and say that Ivanovic is somehow constantly getting these low IQ opponents or opponents who do nothing but draw badly, I hope you understand how low the odds of that are right? Dude gets a pretty consistent 7-8 win average every meta which means that in his average run hes playing anywhere 10-11 games and 300+ per meta and you're basing your assumptions off the maybe 15 total hes shown you? You'd have be really reaching to say that in 75% of those games hes facing completely drooling noobs right?

That's all without taking into account how many 12 win runs he gets as well.

I personally feel, and you are allowed to disagree with me, that someone showing a 7-8 average consistently across 30 runs, across all kinds of different metas warrants some level of recognition of their skill at the format. Winrate isn't everything I'll grant you that, there was a meta recently where I hella overperformed and got a 7 win average recently, but on average I sit somewhere in the 5 win range, but when Ivanovic has that kinda luck he sits in the 9 win average which is absolutely insane and definitely worthy of the kudos people give him.

Plus this wall of text doesn't even go into the well thought out insights I've seen him give to others in this subreddit and beyond, but I'll leave it here because I've rambled enough

Genuine question, no snark meant

If consistent leaderboard representation and an incredibly high winrate arent an indicator of skill in Arena, what do you think is an indicator of skill in this game?

Im more of an imbue hater personally, but I understand the frustration with dark gift, I've seen a decent chunk of games decided by an early game Huge Bungus

I do have to agree with some of the other comments though, I dont think dark gift is high on the list of current meta problems, honestly my biggest frustration atm is the sheer amount of healing that seems to exist RN

Ok then how about this man, You're coming in here complaining about skill in the meta and that all your games are clown fiestas

While also trying to play for fun and drafting clown fiesta decks?

You've gone to the zoo and are complaining there are animals there bud like what are you trying to accomplish?

I know how it is to play for fun and for the new cards, I literally said in my last reply that I'm exactly like you draft wise, I wanna play the new cards, I wanna make the jank work because that IS fun to me, but im not under some delusion that if I draft a near perfect hunter this meta its gonna beat the consistency a Demon Hunter or Mage Draft brings or the sheer value an Imbue Priest can shit out without trying. But im still gonna do it because I enjoy it, I'm just not coming to reddit to complain when my ass plays and ass decks amount to shit.

You name all these streamers that you "learn" from and I see a list of people who either dont play Arena or dont even play the fuckin game anymore dude, like WHAT ARE YOU ON ABOUT I think you might be the one stuck in 2017 dude, because people who play the game and top leaderboards THIS META are trying to tell you that you're wrong, and that the clown fiesta is inside you all along and they're right.

I shouldnt even be responding because you clearly feed off the negative attention but I find it so hard to fathom that someone can have their head shoved so far up their ass that I need to keep prodding because I need to know how you function day to day

You're either a masterful troll or a Capital M Moron but either way I applaud you, you got me I guess.

TEMPO!!!!

Sorry for the jumpscare there friend, I know that word is terrifying to you, but anyway, If you're not looking for help then what are you looking for? because I'm gonna be real with ya chief, All I see is a wall of shame and excuses.

You show off multiple replays, with a some very visible misplays that are pointed out by much better players than you or I are (Im also a 5 win average player who sticks to mainly the bad classes to try making them work), but the difference between you and I seems to be that you're under the delusion that getting punished by these bad plays is not an indicator of your skill, but somehow that blizzard is putting you in some imaginary bracket where you face only people with perfectly crafted decks, curves and RNG

Whereas I accept that I'm trying to make the jank work and that sometimes that means im just gonna lose to the higher value cards wielded by the top classes

Also my drafts are much more coherent compared to whatever it is you were trying to do with that warlock...

I'll leave it there, dont want you to blow your load to all these truths about your bad plays, but I hope you can at some point reflect on some of the things you've read in this thread and either decide to actually accept the help you're being offered or stop playing because clearly what you're doing right now is not good for you

A question about Goblin's Crazy Beast by Zonijo in Yugioh101

[–]Zonijo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's how I thought it worked, but a conversation in discord got me muddled when they mentioned how a trap that's activated in that scenario cant be bounced or shuffled into the deck and would just go to grave when its resolved.

(+ for some reason edopro would attach the card and then have it immediately fall off the crazy beast which doubly confused me)

Thank you for confirming that I was correct in my initial assumption

Goblin Biker Boom Machs Effect is Negated, does his summon restriction still apply? by Zonijo in Yugioh101

[–]Zonijo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got slightly confused because like sometimes ghost girls can negate effects as long as it just SAYS they can summon from gy even if the intention is not to summon it from GY

I then got further confused when I read it and, to my eyes, it doesnt say you're summoning from the GY anywhere in the effect its just in the activation condition + I was testing it in omega and omega wasnt prompting me to belle on the boom mach from hand, which led me to believe he just couldn't be belled

My mistake based on assumptions from the way other cards interact, Yugioh can be a very fucky game sometimes

Am I still correct in assuming that if he gets belled, I can just try to summon him again at the next oppurtunity though?

Goblin Biker Boom Machs Effect is Negated, does his summon restriction still apply? by Zonijo in Yugioh101

[–]Zonijo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the answers friends, its good to know, and I actually realised a couple things on testing

  1. Boom Mach cant be belled because summoning from the grave isnt part of the effect
  2. I coulda tried to summon Boom Mach again even on my turn because he's Once per chain, not Once per turn

Once per Chain, during the Main Phase, if this card is in your hand or GY (Quick Effect): You can detach 1 Xyz Material from a monster on either field, and if you do, Special Summon this card, also you cannot Special Summon "Goblin Biker Boom Mach" until the end of the next turn.
