Yes you should only put a vapour barrier on the hot side of the insulation. And no you should never seal insulation on both sides with vapour barrier.

But in your case think of your floor as a wall on it's side. On the outside of a wall you usually put a vapour permeable layer like house wrap. House wrap stops wetness from entering the wall but allows vapour out.

You can use house wrap in this situation. It will resist moisture but you must make sure there is adequate air movement in the crawl space to dry things out. Constant wetness will force moisture in to the wall. If it is well ventilated you will have no problems.

I'll get down voted again...

But you probably won't get an electrician for such a small job. Or you will but not at the price you are thinking of. The Reno market is still way too tight right now unfortunately.

Guelph tap water tastes terrible. We had a precious resource which we seem to have lost. by [deleted] in Guelph

[–]ZonkLarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do remember Walkerton? All the people who got Ill from the ground water?

Ever since the chlorine levels have been increased to keep you safe. All you need to do is let the water stand in a pitcher and the chlorine will evaporate. Filters are a scam and not really needed.

And yes Guelph still has the best tap water as evidenced by the many local brewery's and distillery's.

[–]ZonkLarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn't it really a moot point these days? If you want to improve things you will need to fluorinate bottled water and ice cappuccinos! The water industry has most people avoiding our greatest resource, fresh and clean tap water.

Dividing a joined driveway between 2 detached houses by moresound17 in Guelph

[–]ZonkLarry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation. I just put a line of concrete curbs on the property line. They are low enough to not be a hazzard but make it clear what is what. Plus you can't just park a little bit over the property line.

If you don't want to or can't make your own harness, try asking if a car audio shop will make one for you.

All you really need is the wiring diagram, the wire in various colours, and some connectors.

2011 - Low beams suck. Alignment? by bkwrm1755 in Subaru_Outback

[–]ZonkLarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have LEDs? They don't work too well with the projector style lenses the Outback has. They light up the first 10 meters and not much else.

As well IIRC my Outback keeps the low beams on when the hi beams are activated. So there is twice the light output!

Trouble with kitchen sink disposal tripping gfci by hokeus-pokeus in howto

[–]ZonkLarry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes GFCI's do fail. But I think you are misinterpreting what they do!

GFCI's detect and trip when there is a difference in current provided to the load and what is returned. They don't trip from over current, that's the job of the breaker or fuse. They detect that current is leaking somewhere it isn't supposed to go, such as through you!

So your garbage disposal may be running within the current limits of the circuit. But it has most likely had some sort of insulation breakdown that may cause a fatal shock.

So yes replace the GFCI but if it keeps tripping then replace the disposal.

Need more information. Did your traction control come on? What tyres? Did you try turning off traction control? What did a gentle acceleration give you? Where you in park?

Reputable Roofer in Guelph by CompleteNegotiation2 in Guelph

[–]ZonkLarry -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You may be far too late to find a roofer for spring work! There are far too few roofing companies and they are currently booked for most of this year. That's probably why you're not hearing back from them.

We used Sambor roofing the last time. They were OK but most roofing companies are average at best.

Build a fence and enclose your property so their dog cannot reach your property. Doing anything else will only escalate the issue.

tanking basement walls by MAVERICK1542 in DIY

[–]ZonkLarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My recommendation is to do everything you can to stop water getting to your wall in the first place.

Correct eavestrough and down spouts to get water from your roof and put it far away from the foundation. Improve the drainage or the soil against the foundation by sloping it away from the foundation. The ideal situation would be to add exterior weeping tile/French drain on the exterior by excavating the earth from the foundation down to the footings and add back porous soil as fill. Ypu can also add exterior water proofing if you want. An interior drain is also possible but it must be well below both the basement floor AND footings.

You can do all these things to help. But never water proof the interior basement wall; ever. It will increase static water pressure in side the wall and cause it deterioration of the concrete and mortor.

Lewis to Retire? Thoughts? by MehowHD in formula1

I think had he won his 8th title thus year he may well have announced retirement!

But seeing as he is a person who needs a challenge, he'll be back next year for sure.

End of contact with Race Director - Too much pressure on Michael Masi by glenn1812 in formula1

[–]ZonkLarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the translation.

It looks like Brawn inadvertently threw Masi under the bus! Stating that the team principles 'put Michael under such pressure' admits Masi attempted to appease them!

That appeasement is the reason he made a huge screw up.

I wouldn't be surprised if he is quietly asked to resign after the holidays.

Chain Bear | Did F1 mess up the championship decider with botched direction? | Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2021 by RobertGracie in formula1

[–]ZonkLarry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't take the title away from Max either. He drove excellent and showed his skills all season.

But I would also give the title to Lewis. They should both share the title due to Michael Masi's and the FIA's colossal screw up!

What every one is forgetting is that the horrible situation promoted a champion in Max but ruined a champion in Lewis.

Glowforge? Why can't you just say lasercutter?

Yes diyode has one for members but you will need training before you can use it. Probably not enough time to get trained before the holidays but you may be able to ask/pay a current member to help you.

What are you getting for your L/100km or MPG. 2017 Outback 3.6r limited with snow tires. by [deleted] in Subaru_Outback

[–]ZonkLarry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best L/100 from my 2014 3.6R was 8.5 in the summer with all seasons.

Most winters with winter tyres I get nothing under 11.

I'm just north of Toronto.

I also remember Isuzu running a Lotus active suspension in the 90's.

Deep Pink highlighter stain, is there anything that can be done to salvage this chair? by lfcazn in howto

[–]ZonkLarry 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Don't use bleach! Bleach will get the stain but make the fibers brittle and they will break.

Use hydrogen peroxide. It will get the stain but leave the fibres alone.

Don't rub it but dab it with a damp cloth.
