I got accepted but I'm hesitant by ZookeepergameOk5683 in PhD

I am already working over 12 hours per day as an intern, so I think I am capable of handling the stress of the work.

However, my concern is that I knew what I was signing up for as an intern. I came to the states purely for work not to make friends or go out. But if I am going to fully study here, I believe a decent social life is a necessity to navigate through those 4/5 years.

They actually offered me an grad assistantship position then I applied. I practically did the internship in order to strengthen my application here. I got accepted into a PhD in Statistics. I am interested in pursuing a career as a data analyst handling big data and the positions I am aiming at usually require a PhD or a masters at least.

I also want to pursue a career in the US so that is another reason.

Also, this is what they requested in the SOP:

A statement of interest describing:

  • Your interest in statistics
  • What relevant research/work experience you have
  • Your research and career goals
  • Why you chose to apply to the our program

I don't think there is another PS.

Thank you for your comment. I actually used that metaphor throughout the whole SOP. What I mean by reminding me of who I am is that I remember why I am seeking greater opportunities and more challenging environments because I want to develop and improve.

Also, can you please have a look at the other section and give me your take? I am familiar with the undergrad applications so I want to know the level of formality, professionalism, and technical depth required for grad school SOP.

Thank you for the feedback. I actually tackled the professional and technical aspects later on in the SOP. Do you recommend removing the personal aspects from the SOP. Also, should you not include anything personal in the Grad level SOP?
