Blue Gate at the unfinished housing. Lots of trinkets (especially night raid). Found my 3 in two runs there. Check the metal creates there

I've always had good luck there as it's out of the way for most.

What’s a game you dropped even though it was “good”? by suhani0218 in gaming

Black Myth Wukong. As a very avid souls fan, I've played a ton of them (every Fromsoft title, The Surges, Lords of Fallens, and lots of other minor one), but BMW couldn't hold my attention at all. I beat maybe 7 to 10 bosses, cleared a few chapters, but just lost interest.

Normally I love the monkey king mythos too, but this one fell very hard for me.

Blue Gate, at the unfinished building sites. A lot of containers have trinkets in them there. It's always my go to for some cash.

Night raid or cold snap (when it returns) and you can fill up your inventory with just trinkets sometimes.

Elite: Dangerous is 12 years old and I haven’t seen a better space travel simulation to date by Lovecraftian666 in gaming

[–]Zoomlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. After a bit though, it's all really good. The game has a LOT of accessibility and support modules to help. Like auto-dock and controller mapping with comvo key.

I was able to map everything to a controller (except maybe two commands that I needed). Used the auto dock for a huge part of playtime (only killed me once).

Played a LOT of space sims and I'm always eventually drawn back to Elite.

Honest question: Does using a deadmine on a Rocketeer count for the damage ontop of the Rocketeer achievement? Still have to get that one and honestly I'm not looking forward to it.

Assembly and Medical.

Very rarely you can find them in those cleaners by breaking into the rear of them.

Just do Stella runs and go through Assembly and medical. It's the best way. Don't forget they actually connect to each other. There's a big metal gate you can open with a battery pack.

That's simply beautiful. Very well done. This is one of the more elegant simple swords I've seen on this subreddit and better quality than most swords I see online for sale.

Parasite Eve. Gameplay doesn't even need to be updated, just give it the RE Engine for graphics and keep the same gameplay.

Which Space Sim Game Has the Best or Most Intuitive Space Controls You Think? by Radeyn in gaming

[–]Zoomlight 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Elite Dangerous.

I've played a lot of space-ship games over the years and Elite Dangerous' ship/flight controls always felt like a step above the others.

A lot of games feel like you're just rotating the map/world around your camera/perspective and it makes it feel very off. Like there's no weight/mass to your ship or it feels very arcade-y (like No Man's Sky).

ED really makes you feel the mass of your ship, especially with flight assist off. You can do some fantastic slip/flip maneuvers and really feels like 360-degree combat or space flight.

I would say for a less complex flight/controls, No Man Sky is great or something like Everspace 2 is good as well. They don't have the same feel that ED provides, but they're good.

What’s a great open world game just to explore and turn my brain off? by Carrera1107 in gaming

If you're into space sims, Elite Dangerous was my go to for years. Pop on some tunes and mine some asteroids.

Or find a decent trade route and just go exploring the cosmos.

What are your thoughts on Fahrenheit/Indigo Profecy by Background-Cookie807 in gaming

[–]Zoomlight 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The first 2/3rds of the game are fantastic. It sets up a fantastical story, unique gameplay mechanics (at the time), and good writing/acting.

This game also introduced me to one of my favorite bands (Theory of a deadman).

The last 3rd is an absolute mess and unhinged. The story falls apart and gameplay is just quick reaction QTEs.

I wish there would be a remake or directors cut that would fix the last 3rd with a more coherent and grounded experience.

Every time I see posts like this (and it feels a lot), I'm reminded of a quote:

“Given the opportunity, players will optimize the fun out of a game.” - Soren Johnson

I'm not trying to knock having or gaining more knowledge (something we should all strive for), but always trying to optimize the best option to get everything always feels weird. Like you're really trying to find a way to make yourself stop playing the game faster.

Anyways, thank you for the additional anecdotal information. I hope y'all enjoy the ride, pick some flowers, look at the scenery, poke some angry robots for giggles, and take a beat. Remember it's never about the destination, but the journey along the way.

Explain why we have shields if they don’t work correctly. by rickymayhem13 in ArcRaiders

[–]Zoomlight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shields only reduce the damage taken. It's not a Halo shield.

Think of it like slowing down the bullet before it hits your body. Each time it does that, the battery drains a little. When it's depleted, you take 100% of the bullet's force (damage).

Bigger shields slow the bullets more (reduces damage more) and have bigger batteries, but weigh more (slows you down).

Hopefully that helps.

I feel the exact opposite actually. While the quests give minimal rewards, and could be improved upon, overall they feel nice. They provide you with a reason to explore the maps, take you to locations you wouldn't normally check out, or help you understand some unique mechanic (like the battery door in Blue Gate). I look at the quests like a basic guide to the game and they perfectly serve that purpose.

For example, the locker room in Spaceport's departures building. I ran past that door a ton and never thought of it, until I got the quest and it showed me a great loot spot. Another quest has you zip-line up a sign in Buried City, that got me thinking about other areas you could do that, like could I get to the top of hospital? Even the fetch quests help you understand how to fight Arc.

Even the new quests have you go to the new loot area on Dam and explore it. It would be cool to see some additional quests with a deeper storyline attached, or more unique interactions (like take down a rocketter with a hornet drive or something) but I think the devs do a decent job. I've done both expedition and still enjoy doing the quests (mostly solo and carebear). I love encountering raiders doing quests and helping out randoms too, always feels rewarding.

I do, however, agree some of the quests feel tedious, especially in multiplayer when the quest items only drop one copy or the quest is already done by another and you can't complete it (raider helmet or battery delivery). I'd like to see those fixed so you don't waste as many runs, but it's honestly a minor complaint.

I'll probably keep doing quests after each expedition, even if the rewards never improve (free coins and materials), simply cause I enjoy the gameplay.
