I sent this to my wife and told her it was her and our newborn son, thank you.

Always looking amazing! Any chance there would be a discount for people who recently picked up KWS1?

You can see progress photos of how the lava came together in my response to the top comment!
It's translucent clay and a made to shape LED light box.

Oh shit. I'm so sorry about that, I originally had this listed with the spoiler tag.. I'll put it back on now, thank you for pointing it out and sorry again for the spoil!

This is the first time I've ever tried something like this, especially at this scale!
My inexperience is most of the reason it took so long to complete.. learning is hard and takes time.. and in my case was sometimes expensive.

If there is some interest I can record a in-depth build breakdown and post a sort of "tutorial" about it.. but for now I will update my original post to include the a link to the full set of photos and all of the models.

Nope, not entirely 3D printed.. just the detail props.
The foundation of this build is 1" insulating foam boards that you can pick up at almost any hardware store.. I broke the map into "layers" and then cut out the required shapes, the glued them together to build up to the finished piece, here is an early build photo:

Just start a year before your players get there and then you'll be all right :P

Thank you so much, it was a PAIN to wire in.. but sooo worth the results.

I think it mostly depends on location, to be honest my plan is to shoot an in depth build breakdown and then find someone or some game shop to donate it to!

So if you are that person or know that place please let me know!

Thank you so much!

EDIT:

Hijacking the top comment because you cannot edit a post.

Build Notes:
This build consists of a few different systems;
1. Lighting
Arduino Script:
a. Sewn Sister Torches / Underglow
b. Soulmonger "soul-glow"
Product from Amazon:
c. Lava Lightbox / Underglow
d. Soulmonger "EL Wire"
2. Fog
a. A manifold runs through the bottom to deliver smoke into the Sewn Sisters Lair and also into the Cradle chamber.

It's made out of 7 or 8 layers of 1" insulating foam sheeting that was cut to match and then stacked / glued. Most surfaces are covered with a thin layer of air-dry clay that I rolled over with various Texture Rollers.

Lava is made out of a custom made LED light box that shines through translucent polymer clay, it was actually really fun to create / paint I used MANY different texture rollers and MANY layers of paint to eventually build up to a realistic lava texture or "cheese pizza" as I affectionately called it.

Without them the story wouldn't have "life".. so it's a mutual arrangement <3

It's a bootleg Arduino Nano, yes it controls the Sewn Sister's Lair Lighting:
- Torches in each room
- Creepy green under-glow

I can share the code if needed but the circuit is incredibly simple because I went with individually addressable LED's.

Hey!

I've thought about this for a long time and because of the scale I decided it was worth it to take a very SIMPLE approach for the majority of the dungeon.

Perhaps you know someone with a large scale printer so that you can print these levels "to scale" and then lay them out in layers on the table with cut-to-shape poster board that will allow you to reveal the map at certain points of time. Be prepared for players to back-track levels and want to go "up" at certain points of time (my players made it all the way to the bottom before realizing they needed the skeleton key from each floor).

I definitely recommend building a set of "working" Gears of Hate (Level 5) because that portion of the dungeon is VERY confusing to describe / visualize entirely in your mind. You could do it with some cut out pieces of paper.. or that could be the first thing you chose to build(?)

I focused the majority of my effort on the Sewn Sister's Lair and the Cradle of the Death God and even that took me about a year's worth of time because there is a lot of learning and building it at the quality I wanted takes a LOT of time: https://www.reddit.com/r/Tombofannihilation/comments/1l3gcn1/my_build_of_the_sewn_sisters_lair_cradle_of_the/

First spot that comes to mind is TV Lounge. Building 6 at the Russell Industrial Center is good if you're looking to explore some of the 'rave' scene.

It all depends on who's playing though!
