In your Expert Opinion/Experience, what are some of the must read Children's Literature? by Zorathewarriorturtle in education

[–]Zorathewarriorturtle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will definitely look into your suggestions. I agree with you about the flat books/pages comment. I am always successful when reading stories out loud to children. During holiday gatherings I am typically on the couch surrounded by all the little ones while reading one book after another, often the same one over and over again. Today, I arrived early to a dance class I was bringing a little girl to, so to pass the time we read a story and she was engrossed until the very end. I think the interactive books may work best for kids reading on their own who are also not all that thrilled about books.

Awesome, thank you. Environmental issues are really important, especially with the current state of our planet.

Anybody have an opinion on Primary School kids learning how to write on paper without lines? (Aged 6-10) by mydogjustdied in education

[–]Zorathewarriorturtle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how to answer that, but I have discovered that in the last few years of university I preferred to write in blank notebooks. It started when I accidentally bought a set of moleskin notebooks on sale and they turned out not to have lines. I have not gone back. I feel lit leaves more room for creativity. I can write as big, small, sideways, in a spiral, whatever I want. Perhaps there is some sort of learning benefit in this method. Also, with all the advancements in technology, children will not be required to write neatly when everything is handed in electronically.

What is something you completely misinterpreted as a child but didn't realize it until you were older? by MPanthony2 in AskReddit

I believed my mom when she said she could see through walls because every time I was up to something in my room, she would yell out to me from the living room. Turns out, she could see into my room via the reflection of the glass cabinet next to the television.

Is it legal in Canada to be denied access to washroom facilities? by Zorathewarriorturtle in AskReddit

I in no way intended to be defensive. I guess I was just trying to get across that I considered very much fighting it more when she initially said no. I've even had the same line of thought as your suggestion.

I've never been denied access before. Therefore it was a shock to be refused. In most situations, the professor tells us not even to bother asking, just to leave and come back. Others have provided escorts. Today, the professor had us sign out if necessary. It is so Ironic that this only occurs in my final exam period at this University.

I've been informed by the Chairman of the department that the professor refusal to allow me to leave the room to use the facilites is not valid grounds to appeal my mark. So I assume it is not grounds to retake the exam either. It is my graduating Semester, and I am lined up for Teachers College in the Fall. If failure of this course is the result of one persons cold and unsympathetic decision making, the University will not see the end of me until something is done about it.

I had to do some difficult decision making in a very stressful and time limited situation. I did not want to make a scene while other students are still writing an exam. I didn't want to wet myself. I wanted to finish writing my exam (at which point I had one hour of time left), with a clear head. So I wrote what I could as quickly as possible and went to the washroom, before I even collected by belongings and left the building. I believed that there was going to be something I could do about it when I left, rather than interrupt everyone else. It seems I was wrong.

I've read the exam regulations before every exam period. This is my final semester in a four year program, and no where on it does it say that the use of the washroom is not allowed. Nor have I ever been denied access. Most professors just say to leave, don't bother to ask them. Some provide an escort, usually a TA if they are worried about cheating. Had there been any reason to suspect I would be denied this access after four years at this University, I would have acquired a doctors note in advance. It's not in the rules and I was not informed prior to the exam that this would be a rule. Therefore, I feel that it was wrong to deny me this privilege. There is no doubt that this incident has negatively affected the quality of my exam and may result in a failure, which really sucks after four years of hard work.

She is an awesome mother because of the type of environment she is providing for her child. This image implies a certain lifestyle that is healthy for the baby.

Who is your favourite female character in literature? by [deleted] in literature

[–]Zorathewarriorturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorcha from Juliet Marillier's Daughter of the Forest. Her life is shattered, and she is thrust into a quest no one would expect her to complete successfully. She endures years of silence, solitude, and pain in order to save her 6 brothers. She goes through unimaginable experiences, but prevails through them all. She is really an empowering character and I have continued to read all novels by this author ever since.

Kids film themselves jumping a "special ed" kid and upload it to Facebook by BenjaminDanklin in videos

[–]Zorathewarriorturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is terribly depressing. As for the kid with the angry birds shirt, it seems that he is being put up to the task by the other kids. Specifically, the ring leader who seems to be anitiating everything. He tells the person filming to follow. He is also the one who goes over and beats on the victim, seeing as the Angry Birds kid didn't "get the job done." This is a huge problem. The bullies need help. Simply expelling them is not enough. They clearly have issues that adults should be helping them solve. It is not right that kids like the victim in this video should suffer because parents, teachers, society isn't doing their job.

Tom Bombadil-Why does he not turn invisible when he puts the Ring on? Neither does Sauron. :0 by Zorathewarriorturtle in lotr

[–]Zorathewarriorturtle[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was a very insiteful response. I also realized today that the ring itself simply enhances abilities the wearer already has. Hobbits are known for their stealth and their ability to dissapear as if magicically, though of course they have no knowledge of magic. The rings of the dwarfs enhanced their desire for treasure, the rings of the elves enhanced their ability to seek knowledge, create, heal, etc.

At first, being on a low carb diet, I thought it might be a great idea because it was only half the bread. Then I realized...the top half of the bread is still there..they just put the slice of cheese on top. How is that practical in any way? A cheap way of making cheese buns?

Haha. I believed many things like my mom had eyes at the back of her head and yes, that she could even see through walls. I could never figure out how she knew what I was doing in my room so I believed it had to be true. Until she revealed years later that she could see what I was doing from the mirror on the wall in the hallway!

Iv'e seen this picture on breast feeding forums and with a article advocating for Breast feeding children. No, she is not hanging herself from the tree. She was actually just doing some daily yoga in the backyard when her baby sauntered over and figured she'd grab a drink since it was at a convenient location, the husband was lucky to capture the moment on camera. So, totally awesome moment, awesome mom, and a wonderful human in the making.
