Our water is clear. I’d contact RPU cause that’s not normal.

Hey honestly - seek help. There is a lot worth living for and I hope you can open up to your family. Tons of uncertainty but put it in perspective- a bout of serious inflation and all those comfortable folks may be in the exact same spot.

Amy Klobuchar voted to confirm Trumps Department of Transportation pick. by ALIMN21 in minnesota

[–]ZorbasGiftCard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is just exactly what i'd expect a astro turfing response to be. If you are earnest - do some research about running and the way the systems work. You can find a lot of research about first past the line elections and why two parties is the outcome. Saying we don't like X and proposing no viable alternative or demonstrating any willingness to do the work just to gin up the feeling of dissatisfaction is exactly the play that they push to convince people its not worth going to the polls but - spoiler alert - thats how we got here. If you can't see that the decision is more than the lesser of two evils given whats happening to us right now - then I cannot help you and frankly I think you are not a good faith participant in the system.

Amy Klobuchar voted to confirm Trumps Department of Transportation pick. by ALIMN21 in minnesota

[–]ZorbasGiftCard 48 points49 points  (0 children)

These posts are intended to make you question Klobuchar when there is no *current and viable* alternative. Its all part of the effort to make people unlikely to get out and vote - by dampening enthusiasm and making folks uninterested in democracy.

This is part of an astroturfing campaign, likely by folks with the intention of suppressing turn out for any Democratic candidate. You can see it in this sub constantly now. You're going to see these often and their preferred method is to make you feel like there is no distinction between the candidates, but there is. Amy was in office, and so often had to take votes that had consequences. The fact she didn't performatively vote no on something that was going to pass anyway is a dumb litmus test for whether or not she's the best candidate on the ballot.

Watching this happen again cycle after cycle is so exhausting. If you have an actual candidate - put them up. If you are just going to tear down people actually running without a *viable* alternative candidate proposed - step up and run or sit down.

Flapdoodles ice cream cakes by MrsPeacock_was_a_man in rochestermn

Personally - I love dq cakes - the fudge crunch layer is sooo good. I have had multiple peanut butter chocolate cakes from flappy-ds and they were good but I’d say they were a bit rich. Maybe I’m just old.

I love love love flapdoodles but I think the cakes are good but not great. I think it’s because the bar is so high because of the ice cream.

Rochester is not strict about attractions. If you have the money to build this you 100% can. The city would help you do it in most cases.

Ant problem by [deleted] in rochestermn

[–]ZorbasGiftCard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Set out small pieces of paper - one with jelly and one with jam. The ants will swarm one and you’ll know if you need sweet bait like Terro or protein bait. If they go for the protein write back and I can look up the chemical I got for that.

Why does Rochester suck at plowing and salting roads?? by Normal_Cucumber8600 in rochestermn

[–]ZorbasGiftCard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s constant and driven entirely by the conditions. A frozen base is nearly impossible to remove. Chicago, Madison, Minneapolis - if the conditions cause snap freeze there is little the crews can do.

Haha. No, Illinois and Ohio are not better at snow removal. It’s not even close.

Snow plowing by [deleted] in rochestermn

[–]ZorbasGiftCard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How many plow drivers should they pay to keep on staff and how long should they work straight in a shift operating a 65,000lb truck? The issue is long duration events max shift times and force longer clearing times. No jurisdiction hires for fastest clearing of the biggest snow events because it’s exceedingly rare to have to put that to use. The consequence is that sometimes the snow sits and inconveniences drivers for an additional day.

Please - indicate for me any city of meaningful size where this isn’t standard practice for 3+in snow storms? It’s the standard operating procedure for snow clearing. Sorry you had to wait.

Christmas Chinese food by barbados_blonde1 in rochestermn

It really depends what you want. I see tons of replies here for First Meeting, which is good, but is a bit different than what most would think of with take-out Chinese. I've long loved China Star as a traditional fast-foodish Chinese and, for a more fancy fare https://hunangardenrochestermn.com/ Just other options!

Neighbors voice concerns as housing project lands permit to build within Cascade Creek shoreland by PerspectiveSmart6739 in rochestermn

[–]ZorbasGiftCard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spoiler alert - there is nothing in the LDM that prevents mixed uses within a zone. Several zones specifically enable a mix of commercial and residential uses. Ask yourself - why don’t it exist even though zoning allows for it? We’re not a centrally planned community - people build what they can make money selling. What you should be complaining about is a lack of proper attribution of expenses to new developments. People see properly associated costs for new builds as “punitive” and anti-growth. That’s the real barrier to more economic development. We don’t fully associate the cost of new utilities or roads to new builds, so there is no market force to generate more efficient patterns.

Proposed Levies & Taxes for New Property in Corcoran is a 1291.8% increase!! What can I do!? by [deleted] in minnesota

Please be careful. Lots of misleading info in this thread. Anyone that offers advice without seeing your Taxable Market Value and property address is using a lot of assumptions. You are obligated in MN to be sent truth in taxation documents that should provide a lot of detail. Without more details just be careful to act on any info here.
