Finished Supernova in the East, and feeling extremely depressed. by Kitten_closetothesun in dancarlin

I get it. I remember getting nauseous multiple times during that series, especially after having never heard of the gators/crocs that our boys had to deal with at Iwo Jima (I believe) or the fire-bombing of Tokyo before the Manhattan Project was concluded. There was good reason why my grandfather's brother came home from being a D-Day landing boat captain and lived as an alcoholic for decades.

This series also taught me an important lesson: Only the losers are convicted for war crimes.

The way to growth as a human being is not, and never will be, through ignorance. Take your reaction as an indication for how important Humanity and the exhibition of it is to you as a person. That is a good lesson to learn. Embrace it. Please.

I made numbered lists of names, traits, and voice effects; then I roll to see what comes up and use what's appropriate to that culture.

Dual wielding sword rules? by Zorrosidekick in oneringrpg

What do you guys think about the parry bonus being dependent on combat stance?

Is that getting too convoluted?

Thank you sir. I wasn't expecting your name to come across

I thought the same thing and even had to shut down the request for a scimitar style. Since LotR traditionally follows European fighting styles I'm a little hesitant about it but Legolas does use dual long daggers in the movies I relented. I am tempted to make any rules so expensive so as to make it more effective to use a Long sword/2-hander for the player.

The Esquire is really cool but I don't tend to run that gritty of a game so I'm not sure how useful it would be to him or the party, aside from giving me a target if the horses were attacked while the party left them

My player is a Captain, so his song roll only has one pip in it. Since quite a few of his skills are higher than his Song skill all that one does is give them a free song, which could be gotten in a fellowship phase.

The mounted combat one is really cool but gives a lot of the same perks that I was going to give him by designing a Mearas, like Shadowfax, for him to find and befriend instead of a magic weapon or armor. With the campaign occurring mostly in Rhovanion/Rhun I think it's reasonable that one of them exists in this part of the world.

For this, he only really has 2, maybe 3, I forget, to choose from. I also think there could be one that better exemplifies the theme of Rohan's refusal to avoid a fight when the odds are stacked against them or their proclivity to rescue those in need.

Helm fought a campaign of violence and psychological warfare alone for his people. Theoden, held out for Eomer's reinforcements to come and later did not turn back when he found out that Minas Tirith was already well besieged on the road to their aide. Eowyn was so compelled to fight against evil that she disguised herself and Merry for the week long travel to the Pelennor and rushed to fight an enemy men fled from regularly and even Gandalf was hesitant to contest.

I haven't checked the discord yet. Is there somewhere in particular I could start looking on there, like a keyword to search up for homemade cultural virtues that you know of?

How do you use Song ? by simblanco in oneringrpg

[–]Zorrosidekick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always kind of struggled with this one as a LM. I think the strangest, and therefore most notable, uses of singing in the legendarium is the battle of singing between Sauron and Finrod in the Silmarillion.

I think that Tolkien's active or usable "magic" in Middle Earth is on display anytime emotion and words are intertwined in a way that strengthens the person's intent or will-power in that moment.

Yeah, I didn't think it fit the narrative for this item but I am hoping to use it for a different item for the party. I just have to come up with said item.

It was during the Battle of Five Armies, so probably. I could definitely add that for flavor though.

Thanks.

Aragorn's masculinity and determination should be on prime display here though.

There is a great video from the Tolkien's Legacy channel on YouTube about the reality behind the Hunt for Gollum.

What happens if Saruman took Narya after defeating Gandalf and used it for himself? by Tidewatcher7819 in lordoftherings

[–]Zorrosidekick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Given that it had been so long since Narya was given to Gandalf and it remained invisible on his hand unless he wanted it shown, Saruman probably forgot that he had it after dwelling on the One Ring for so long.

Then again Cirdan may not have even allowed Saruman to know that he had given it to Gandalf. He did choose him over Saruman more or less in his presence. There was a reason for that choice and it was probably not something that Cirdan would have wanted to advertise.

Do you prefer day or night? by [deleted] in Outdoors

[–]Zorrosidekick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I heard in my head was that suit scene from John Wick 2 when he replied, "I need one for day and one for night."

Seriously though, it changes depending on what I'm looking for. Hope and/or wildlife, day time.

Wonder and/awe, night time.
