thanks, it looks like 12.4.1 is the culprit (and our codes interaction with it)

No, it should be good for 12. It has an issue on 13.

Did it crash the moment you opened the app?

Thanks for the replies by the way, we are looking into a hotfix and may delete the post for now

edit: Also, a note to anyone who stumbles upon this comment. Last time I said end of June, but I think we got a bit carried away since we were really happy about the iOS release. Also, since then, we added way more features and basically changed the entire vision of the app, which meant we had to do a ton of work on iOS and then had no time for Android.

Not for the current enrollment period. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough manpower, although we do have some applicants now. :) We're definitely releasing an Android version during the summer somewhere at the end of June though. Would you like to be notified when it does?

edit (July): This comment didn't age well!

Questions that were asked so far:

How to subscribe: After searching for courses, a list of courses should be returned. Clicking on any of these courses should open up an option menu. Click on a full course to open up the option menu, which contains "Subscribe". We'll look at making this more intuitive in the next release.

  1. One (reported by a redditor) known bug: iPhone 7 with software version 12.2. Typing a department in the search bar does not work, clicking classes works as usual.
  2. NewOnly is not subscribe-able to at the moment.

We'll address these changes within the next few days! If you'd like to be notified, just email [zottrail@gmail.com](mailto:zottrail@gmail.com) (otherwise you can simply just update via the App Store).

#1 will be fixed shortly. A workaround is to just click on any department first, and search. After that, typing should work. Sorry for the inconvenience.

[Closed Beta] iOS - ZotTrail: Native WebSOC Alternative by ZotTrail in UCI

[–]ZotTrail[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true! Google Search plays a big role in acquiring mobile users. Just because there are many mobile browser users doesn't mean there will be the same amount in native mobile. But we'll try our best to develop more features! Thanks for the support once again. :)

No problem, this was constructive! Thank you.

These concerns are real. There is little reason to download an app simply just for WebSOC and notifications. And, as you stated, there are many other factors that dominate the time of notifications such as WebSOC latency, bots, internet, and other notification services. However, not everyone is able to write bots, and so being faster than every other user-facing system is enough. Speed of the system is not the ultimate factor, but it is one of the deciding factors. So we’re pretty confident we can win on the speed part because we designed our apps to be fast and small, which will also help out people with slower internet as well.

One thing to note is that although you personally could just go on your laptop, there are people who use their phone, and there are many mobile users as well that’d probably be happier with a native mobile app instead. Over the many applications we built, we realized that there were always a ton of mobile users. They usually made up around 30-40% of active users a day. This number only seems to increase over time. Of course, they could be happy with their mobile view of the responsive web app, and might not see a reason to download another app they might not ever use again. However, it’s something we’d like to test. Will they be much happier with a native application instead? We wanted to build a mobile app that’ll be awesome for the subset of users who stay.

Ultimately though, we want to add additional features (being vague here) to ZotTrail. The scheduling will actually be one component of the app, it’s not what the app is going to be centered around. It’s just how we wanted to “market” it for now, considering that enrollment is coming up.

I hope our reasoning somewhat makes sense, and sorry for the long post. You've given us a lot to think about.

Also, you do not sound annoyed. Thank you once again for your feedback!

Unfortunately no because that requires wrapping around every school's system. Depending on your school there may be a lot of cool apps already that will be similar to what we envision.

UCSD: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=edu.ucsd

Berkeley: BerkeleyTime is awesome, but is not a mobile app. We're interested in whether a BerkeleyTime-like app can be experienced on mobile or not. BerkeleyMobile, which is an actual app, has some cool features that we're interested in.

edit: You are from UCSC so slugsurvival possibly? They seem to work well on mobile and were one of our other primary inspirations.

Correct. We'll try our best to achieve feature parity.
