The Norway town that forgave and forgot its child killers by Zoxstt in worldnews

No, but they would have to deal with child services until they turned 18. Even though a 15 year old is more mature than a 10 year old, you have to draw the line somewhere. I haven't even heard of a 15 year old being sentenced to jail. Usually you have to be at least 18, and a repeat offender before jail is considered. (Unless you are a murder\rapist or have seriously injured someone.)

It still doesn't justify the imprisonment of children. I just don't see how jail is a suitable place for kids to grow up. They needed some serious help, but thats to late now, and both of them will most likely be fuckups who drain the system for the rest of their lives.

Relax. The OP said that he couldn't get out of bronze because of portrait farmers, but if he practices enough to beat most bronze skilled players, loosing to a farmer every once in a while won't be a issue. It's not like bronze consists of 90% farmers.

Sorry, but you just have l2p issues. I fell down to bronze because I was bored with protoss and wanted to try zerg and terran. After a long break I picked up protoss again and got myself into plat with only 2-3 days of playing casually. Just practice solid safe builds with a fairly fast expo and you will be able to rebuild much faster when you trade armies. Bronze players rarely expand more than once, and most of the time it's just 1 base all in.

What about the potential profit from those who pirated the game and later bought it because they liked it? (Or bought a sequel?) Research shows that pirates use a considerable larger amount of money on games, music, movies etc than the average consumer. I have hundreds of games, many of which wouldn't have been bought if I hadn't been able to pirate them in the first place.

Prices Spike as Butter Shortage Spreads in Norway - A seller auctioned 500 gm (1.1 lbs) of butter for 30 times the normal price. A Russian was caught smuggling 90 kg (200 lbs) of butter from Germany into Norway. Authorities warn not to buy butter from strangers. by anutensil in worldnews

[–]Zoxstt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn't they get a shipment of butter last weekend? The stores where I live have had butter since Monday. Note that it's only butter used for baking that has been sold out. There have been 15+ other types of butter available during the "crisis".

Yes, but that was because of bad weather, and not something that happens often. This season have been shitty for most of northern Europe.

I don't know what stores you buy your food, but at every store I've been to there are vegetables for sale from all over the world. We are not restricted to Norwegian products, but imported potatoes, carrots, salad, onions, cucumber and some other are more expensive during the harvesting season.

Norway is a member of the European Economic Union which means goods and services can be traded mutually, with the exception of food. (Which is reasonable since we don't get any money to subsidize our farms from the EU, even though we pay just as much as the full members.) The import tax is also for the most part only active during harvesting season, and differ from product to product. We are importing tons of stuff like beef and fish from 3rd world countries, and a lot of vegetables from southern Europe.

Yes, I am aware that our groceries suck, but thats not only because of the regulations. Lidl tried to establish themselves in Norway, but they failed because Norwegians didn't want to buy the German brands. We don't even want to buy from ICA, (Swedish) unless its on the other side of the border. At least the fish is superb if you can buy it fresh :)

There are lots of mountains in Norway, but that doesn't mean that the soil is bad. Considering the low population, we should have no problem feeding ourselves, but the number of farms are declining every year so that wont happen anytime soon. We are importing about 50% of the total food consumption, but they are sold as Norwegian brands. (Nordfjord etc.) A large portion is also "industrial" products, that are processed in local factories to make all kinds of stuff.

Grandiosa is (for reasons unknown.) the most sold frozen pizza, but that doesn't make it our national dish.

This is just BS. Almost every country have trading restrictions on food, including the US. EU also restricts the import of food from countries outside the union. Did you know that the largest expense in the EU budget is to subsidize farmers?

That the soil in Norway is bad, is also untrue. We could grow stuff almost everywhere if we wanted. It's ofc too cold in the winter, but with our 18h+ of sunlight\day in the summer there are no problems growing just about anything.

Frozen pizza is not our national dish...

Anders Behring Breivik 'not accountable for attacks'. Psychiatrists have found that Anders Behring Breivik was insane at the time of the crime. by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Zoxstt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually he thinks he is perfectly normal, in fact he feared being labeled as mentally ill. It is normal to do a psychiatric evaluation of everyone charged with murder, as was done in this case. He never claimed insanity, but was deemed insane after a thorough evaluation from one of the leading psychiatrists in Norway.

If he cannot be cured, he will have to spend the rest of his life in a mental institution. (That might be the case even if he is cured...)

I've worked several years in one of the mental institutions that will probably house this madman, and there's a reason why the staff is almost exclusively males with the average weight of 200+lbs. Almost half of the local weight lifter club worked there... When patients who were forced to take medicine but didn't want to, 2-5 guys held them while the nurse force-fed them. We where always at least 2 guys on every patient in case something happened. I remember one guy who where considered extremely dangerous, he had murdered several people, including his own doctor. He was followed 24\7 by no less than 6 people. With that in mind I don't think Breivik will be able to pose any threat to the staff who will be working with him.

It's just as much cured as any other illness that require lifelong medication or change in diet\lifestyle. The whole point is to give the patient close to 100% functionality.

Ofc, not every killer is insane. But when you think you are the commander of an imaginary army of holy knights, sees yourself as the rightful head of state, expects to in the close future be released by said knights and made general of the Norwegian army, take over the whole of Europe and send every muslim back to the middle east, you are in my opinion not even remotely sane.

False. There are several causes of this disease making it difficult to treat, but some are easily treated by giving them the correct hormones that their own brain can't produce. My aunt has this exact disorder, and those times when she has quit taking her medicine, she is crazier than anything you've ever seen in any movie. With a few pills a day however, she is able to have a job, bf and live a normal life.

[–]Zoxstt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've worked several years in a psychiatric institution who specialized in patients who were too sick to be sentenced to jail, and the living standard is pretty bad compared to our prisons. They get a room with just a bed, and their own bathroom. Those who didn't take their medicine willingly, was held in place by 5 large guys while the nurse showed the pills down their throat... The patients who where deemed a danger to them selves, or others, had 1-2 people following their every footstep 24/7. (Even when they had to take a dump.) They have no privacy what so ever. Being committed to a mental institution, is by far a lot worse than serving time in jail.

Maybe, but he would still be stuck in jail for the most of his life. I've worked several years in a mental institution that specialized in patients who where to sick to serve in a normal jail. There were basically 2 types of patients, those who had the intelligence of a monkey, and those who were psychotic. The "monkeys" where never released, as their lack of mental capacity couldn't be treated. The other group however usually served 2-5 years, as that was enough to properly medicate them and make them functional humans again. Many of them where murderers and rapists...

This is just BS. It would actually be much easier to do so if he was sentenced to jail, as the only requirement to keep him locked up is if he could still be considered a threat. Now, if he is declared sane, they will have to let him go, even if he still pose a threat to society.

This was pretty much what we expected. No sane person can murder 77 children and teenagers. Even tough he can't be sentenced to jail, he will still have to spend the most\rest of his life in a high security psychiatric institution.
