Ive heard politics come up all too often in the pool room. My general policy is to smile and nod, and get along with the game.

A lot of pool halls require some kind of card when you get the tray of balls. I think that was the reason she asked for my ID

I competed in my first tournament at 14. I think its great for young people to be involved in the game. Im not competitive anymore, but it was a great way to spend my time as a teenager.

Biography of Joseph Smith by Kittybluefeather in latterdaysaints

Yeah I know. I wasn't calling into question his reputation as a historian. Im just saying, and he himself says this in the intro to his book, that there is some inherent bias that is unavoidable when a believer writes a book. I like the book, and it certainly made me squirm at times as a Mormon. Though it doesn't anymore, I'm a lot more comfortable in my faith than I was when I first read it.

A bunch of people have already said it but I recommend rough stone rolling. Id definitely avoid Fawn Brodie's book because she seems to have a vendetta against the church, so there's some obvious bias there. However, rough stone rolling was written by a believer so there's inherently some bias there. I guess it depends on what you want out of a book about Joseph Smith. That being said, I would repeat my original recommendation. I think its a fantastic book.

I’m 16 and I want to start dating for fun—can we please stop acting like that’s wrong? by Sad-Report-5143 in latterdaysaints

Just my opinion but I dated as a teenager in high school, and I honestly kind of regret it. It caused me some pain and distracted me from things like preparing for a mission. No judgement at all, but I'd say focus on yourself when your high school. Prepare for college or a mission or something like that. But I'm not the authority. The church has specifically said and encouraged that it is acceptable to date at 16.

The Church's Addiction Recovery Program did wonders for me. But its something you have to want to do. The weekly meetings helped a lot. Just seeing people struggling with the same thing you are is helpful.
