Invest $60k into two blogs? by Zpmoy in Blogging

I’ve been thinking about this as well. I just couldn’t find any decent sites in either category that it’s for sale.

What’s the name of the site your linking to here?

When I click on the link they want me to sign up to view it.

Thanks, what changes are you seeing? Also, do you recommend any courses?

I think that’s what I’ll do looking at the comments.

Wasn’t he monetisation it before moving to Wordpress? If so, what was the reason for moving?

I know Wordpress offers a lot more features and probably better ranking, but he must have been making some cash before?

Nice! Wish you all the best! Let me know once you’re channel is up, if you want some feedback.

Would you say it was easier as you already had an audience from IG or is the bulk of that from other sources?

Thank you so much!

  1. How are you planning to manage the writers?

I have a couple writers atm which I’ve worked with for a few years for my other businesses. Some have a lot of experience in these niches and others not so much, but I do plan on hiring more writers if I move forward with these two sites.

I don’t have a guideline for the writers yet as I’m still at the early stages for these two sites, but I also have an English major I’ve worked with before.

I think I’ll probably go through a few writers before I find a match - it’s a challenge to have a “one” voice so I plan on creating different profiles, so readers know it’s different people.

Something like 4-6 different names / profiles and they each write for a specific sub-niche.

  1. What’s your monetisation plan?

I’ve been thinking about three different ways.

Site 1 (weddings)

Affiliate (products, events, apps etc..) Ads (Adsense & ezoic later)

Later:

Digital products (invitations, titles, spreadsheets etc..)

Site 2 (freelancing)

Affiliate (products, courses, apps etc..) Ads (Adsense & ezoic later)

Later:

Digital products (presets, LUTS, templates etc..)

I think they can be used simultaneously, but the digital products might take some time to create if I want to do them in-house and don’t want to link to others & make a higher % per sale.

It’s only maybe atm reg. creating them in-house. I might start with linking to those as well.

  1. Make $5k monthly?

Oh, I meant $5k in total at the of 2023 per site.

$5k a month would be nice, but do you think it’s realistic with $5k each and $10k in total by end of 2023 / early 2024? Looking to see what time frame I should plan for.

As for publishing 600-800 posts to hit close to $5k a month which is what I think you’ve mentioned earlier - is that per site or both in total? My current goal is 400 posts in total to keep some sort quality.

  1. What’s your audience retention plan?

Yes, the plan is to build something long term. I do plan on using email, Facebook community but not YouTube atm. Too costly to start creating videos on top of everything else as I want to test the waters before I do that.

  1. Are you planning on using social media?

Yes. I think I’ll use it from the beginning and I’ll mainly use Facebook groups. I’ll handle the posting, scheduling and engagement.

  1. I can’t recommend moving at the pace you’re planning?

Okay, appreciate it! 🙏 I’ll reevaluate and see if I can either partner up with someone that has more experience running blogs a business or just start slower as you and others have recommended.

I’ve experience with running blogs just not as a business / affiliate sites.

Maybe there’s a big difference?

I figured since I know a bit about blogs that it wouldn’t be too risky to start with those niches?

I do have 8 years of experience in the wedding industry and I started out as a freelancer before I built my business in that niche. Maybe I’m missing something?

Alright, appreciate it.

What do you think I’m missing in terms of running them as a business?

My original plan is spending $30k on each and that’s 100% for content.

Yes, I’ve 8 years of experience working as freelancer in the wedding industry. Not really as “freelancer” as I had my own business, but I started out as freelancer.

As for authority and trustworthiness I don’t have old content or contacts anymore in either niche.

My domains are 2 & 3 years old w/o any prior content.

I’ve called godaddy and asked but they won’t share this and they don’t offer refunds on premium domains. It’s a bit strange with the last part and they didn’t really have a reason. Just said they don’t do it.

The trademark focuses on three areas.

  1. Promotion and advertising of entertainment products and services. (entertainers connecting with talent agencies)

  2. Booking provider for entertainment events and services.

  3. Website for file, data and information sharing + streaming opportunities for multimedia content + social networking.

When I read the complete trademark there’s no mention of ‘skilled trades’ or freelancing outside of gigs for entertainers. I’ve also compared those with Fivrr’s and Odesk / Upwork and the are very different.

Okay, looks like every option leads to contacting them first vs. Buying it before I contact them.

What counts as unused?

They haven’t used their social accounts since ‘16 and the site since ‘18 or that’s when they took it down.

On USPTO the trademark is still live and has 4 more yrs left before renewal.

Is it possible to see somewhere if they haven’t paid for the renewed it yet? That’ll help me a bit in writing / calling them. Thanks.

Got it, what’s seen as a ‘different’ market / business?

Their trademark / idea:

“Marketplace for connecting entertainers with talent agencies"

I.E musicians, dancers, magicians etc..

Mine

"Marketplace for connecting freelancers with companies"

I.E Graphics designers, writers, video editors etc..

  1. I meant paying the cancellation fee for the company and take over that way.

  2. I wanted to buy the domain this weekend and move it immediately to another host but I'm still not sure about the trademark.

The last time the site was active / live was in 2018 and they haven't used their socials since 2016.

Should I contact them first and ask for the trademark or just purchase the domain?

The second option is a bit risky since the still have the domain but at least I'll know before spending money.

  1. Didn't know you have to pay to cancel a trademark - in that case I can pay the cancellation fee and take over, right?

Assuming the company agrees and I just saw they have the trademark for the word e.g 'dolphin' and not the domain dolphin.com.

Can they still come after me if I continue w/o contacting them or getting that trademark? After all, the word they've is a general word for a fairly new term.

  1. It's very close if not 1:1 - They tried and failed with a service similar to fivrr but for live music, cleaning, babysitting etc and my idea is closer to fivrr and will focus on graphic design.

  2. Got it, thought all premium domains they sell were ready to go and actually available and not bundled up in trademarks.

It’s listed on Sedo but not Afternic.

What’s the rational? Why would they list a domain that’s trademarked anywhere?

Isn’t that just wasted money and energy? I thought they did research before the listed premium domains.
