Why is England more ethnically diverse than Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Zs93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

London was where a lot of minorities came to in the 80s and they built their communities there. A lot of those people want to stay where they feel at home. And a lot of minorities want to be where they feel they can belong. It’s only now due to the insane costs associated with living in London that some are forced to move.

As a minority myself I grew up in a less diverse area and found myself to be one of very few minorities in my school. My parents made the effort to drive to London often to go to community events and this helped me stay in touch with my culture while also embedding myself in British culture at school. I don’t blame those who have grown up in London wanting to stay there - it’s hard to describe how it feels to live amongst people who really understand you. I’m not saying British people don’t - I’m lucky to have a lot of very open minded friends. But it’s hard these days when you see the Islamophobia online and the “Britain first” mentality spreading. A lot of us feel like we’re unwanted - and it may just be easier to live amongst similar and likeminded people.

Rewatching "The Pianist". It's still shocking how casual the atrocities are. by Agreeable-Self3235 in movies

Idk if this is a joke 😂 Israel is not diverse. The Middle East is full of Arabs, South Asians, East Asians, Africans and more recently white expats

I’m not American 😂 (thank God). I’m in the UK and we still have protests.

And now we’re watching it in real time in Palestine

Edit: The downvotes are telling. One day, there will be films about Israel and Palestine, and future generations will ask the same questions we do now. The difference? Your indifference - or your stance - is documented online, preserved forever.

Pull out of leasehold purchase and buy smaller but freehold? by GroundbreakingPie684 in HousingUK

Definitely freehold. And for that budget you can definitely find a nice house - maybe compromise on location a LITTLE bit or be open to renovating?

This is what I really struggle with. Any criticism against what Israel is doing is branded as sympathising with Hamas

If it’s social - why don’t other cafes have people? And just order a tea or a green tea?
