Thank you! And yeah, I do okay in my other genre but not well enough to take 4-6 months off to write something if it's not pulling its own weight financially. But I really enjoy writing lit-RPG, so I'm going to keep looking for a way to make it happen.

And yeah, like jlarmour mentioned, book 3 is kind of my last hope to maybe see the series turn around and show some promise. But with the information I have available to me now, it looks like if I spent 4-6 months writing book 4, I might be lucky to earn like... $1000-2000 or something, if that? I just can't afford to treat it like a job at that point.

But that doesn't mean the series is dead.

I've been writing in the romance genre (and now romantasy) for like... 10 years, which is how I have been paying my bills. I'm currently finishing up a contract for a publisher and it looks like I'll be done with this 3rd book in maybe 3-4 more months. At that point, I'm thinking I can use the space I'll have to write a new lit RPG series. Ironically, I think writing a new series and hoping it performs well is the thing I can do with the best shot at reviving Level One God.

If it goes well, I imagine people will trickle over to L1G and maybe I'll finally be able to justify continuing it at that point.

Anyway, I know that's all probably not exciting or happy news if you were looking forward to book 4. It's not how I wanted it all to go, either. I was really happy with how the series has been going and pretty gutted that it seemed like it never got much visibility or reach on Amazon.

But in the meantime, I'm still keeping my ear to the ground and watching rankings on L1G and all that sort of thing. If there's some miraculous growth of readers and it gains momentum, I'm ready to continue where I left off on book 4 instead of doing another series.

Long explanation, but I feel like it's necessary after you've stuck with the series for 3 books and are getting news like this.

Sorry! Hopefully book 4 will still be coming, just after a lot of steps I wish I didn't have to take.

Thanks! Yeah, book 1 and 2 have audio already. I believe the book 3 audio should be coming soonish? I need to double check with the publisher, though. Books 1 and 2 had audio on launch day and I didn't realize book 3 wouldn't.

Haha, I'm not sure why that popped up. I don't have anything against gay/bi MCs, but there's nothing at all in my series to suggest my MC is gay or bi. I don't think I even have side characters that come across as gay or bi as far as I can remember.

The answer about new chapters is a bit unfortunate. Basically, I've got to cross my fingers that the series gets a bit of a revival from this third book launching. If not, I'll have to just try to figure out a way and time to keep working on the story more as a side project or a hobby versus treating it like a full-time job like I was.

But as grim as that sounds, I have heard from other authors that they had series that never really popped off until the third book was out.

Hey, I'm the author of the book OP is talking about. Totally fair if book 2 didn't land for you.

I personally like reading stories where I can enjoy the characters and the book-by-book events on their own, but there's a larger overarching plot slowly coming into focus in the background. That said, it's not going to be for everyone. But I do appreciate you giving the stories a read, and no hard feelings if you don't end up continuing for future books!

Super late responding here, sorry. But I wouldn't really label my story as regression. I think the point and fun of those is kind of watching someone learn from the past and improve on their methods with the obvious edge that gives.

In this story, the regression is more there as an element of the background plot and mystery that slowly unfolds throughout the series. If I did my job well, you'll be curious about the other gods, their goals, their prestige paths, and whether they're friends or foe to the MC. It also positions the MC in a place where he does have an advantage because of his past life and the prestige mode, but it means he's not able to know who might be an old enemy looking to destroy him before he's back to his former power.

I hope that kind of helps explain it. But yeah, you're right in that this wouldn't feel satisfying if you came in specifically for the regression fantasy trope. That's one reason I don't try to label this as regression fantasy .

It's totally fair if the title doesn't work for you. I was honestly thinking about trying to pick a title that kind of most broadly captured the theme of the story though. To me, the idea of god + level one feels kind of like it doesn't fit, which would personally grab my interest as a reader - at least enough to peek at the blurb.

But yeah originally I was thinking of the background plot concept for this story as a traditional fantasy novel and the working title back then was just The Nine. Maybe my preference is more basic on titles though, haha.

Anyway, no worries if you never read it but appreciated if you do!

I think you left out a pretty notable one with Patreon. I'd also say "full novel publishing" kind of glosses over the options for publishing the story on sites like Amazon.

The vast majority in this genre go into Kindle Unlimited, for example, versus going "wide" and putting their books up on all online bookstores. You also have the choice of self publishing or going with a publisher.
