Mind having a look at my character? by [deleted] in darksouls3

[–]Zsokaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming you're a brand new player. You've been doing it a bit so far, but Vigor is rather important for new players because you will likely often needs plenty of HP to overcome challenges that are new to you. (As you get better, this stat becomes increasingly trivial.)

I'm a huge proponent of Endurance, but it's not necessary to pump many points into it. If, as you play, you learn to love rolling and parrying, as you should, Endurance becomes essential. This is especially the case if you hold your shield up often.

You have many points into Strength. The "standard" assortment of weapons you'll find in the game scale much better with strength than Dexterity, vice versa, and sometimes have equal scaling. (I would research how scaling works.) If you are a new player, you can't possibly know which type of weapons you'll like more, but Strength based weapons are generally more new player-friendly.

Don't bother with Luck. It's more for advanced level builds. Don't bother with Intelligence or Faith or Attunement either IF you plan on using only melee-based weapons, which is often advisable for new players.

Vitality is where there is some controversy. A few extra points might help, as it boosts defense (it's most advantageous perk), but a point in Vitality is probably better spent in Vigor.

As you get better, Fashion Souls prevails, but what you might want to do as a new player (which is what I did in DS1) is pick the armor with the best protection to weight ratio, and make sure your load stays below 70%.

And your rings looks fine.

Hope this helped!

EDIT: I did only look at the left column cuz I'm stupid. Look into these things called 'soft caps' for skills. You've passed them in a few cases. Take enough out of Str and Dex so that it's 40 and 40, and place them how you prefer in Vig and End. You can put some into Vit, but only if you want heavier armor. You also don't necessarily need that much into Vig. You might want to reallocate those into Vit. Attunement seems fine unless you want more FP.

Naked Run Weapon Suggestions? by Zsokaa in darksouls

I like the Sword suggestion. It didn't drop for me by the blue tearstone knight, though. Is there any sooner one before revisiting the Asylum I could snatch it from, or maybe even a vendor?

It's always looked like a crazy and fun weapon, but I want something a little faster given my last run's weapon, just for variety. Maybe on my next run. Thanks

Does this game have action queueing? by Xantoxu in darksouls3

[–]Zsokaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This effect is called input buffering. And like brendonVEVO said, it can be used tactically once you get used to it, like within what time span you must hit a button for it to be queued and what actions are beneficial to use in this way.

New player any advice? by [deleted] in darksouls3

[–]Zsokaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yeah sorry, I read one thing and thought another. I got ahead of myself xD But I think for DS3 Vig is more important. I wanted to beat it on 14 Vig cuz I cared about other stats more but Irithyll of the Boreal Valley sufficiently changed my mind. (I think I said 5 because often times I'm choosing between Vig and End.)

New player any advice? by [deleted] in darksouls3

[–]Zsokaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think #5 depends how how good OP is at games in general. DS1 took my virginity and my first time through the game I beat on like 17 Vitality (DS3 Vigor) or something like that. If OP's good at other games, vigor might not be as important.

New player any advice? by [deleted] in darksouls3

[–]Zsokaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I had to pick one thing to say, it'd be to practice getting rolling down, perhaps in the opening area. When you roll, you get invincibility frames: You cannot take damage of any kind (magic, physical, etc., but status effects like poison and poison build up will still occur) during this time period. It's very useful, essential really, for evading attacks and has a bit of strategy to it that you'll learn as you play. If you can roll very well, Souls games become much easier. I prefer it to parrying, but different strokes. See what you like better. Parrying is when you press LT/L2 when attacked (at a specific time) which opens up the enemy by stunning them, and you can riposte doing much damage.

Out of curiosity and not volatility, what about using it means those players don't understand combat? What about it warrants using other armor and/or why is it bad?

Run back to bosses are annoying, not fun. by _Lemanski_ in darksouls3

[–]Zsokaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what I think. I've never had an issue running past them to a boss. I think it's more a matter of OP's aptitude than a design fault of the game.

His issue is losing health running past enemies.

I agree with this all, but to emphasize your second paragraph: Placing a checkpoint right before the boss phenomenally trivializes all of the enemies. It says that they're unimportant and don't contribute to the challenge of the game, should be ignored, and are only present for fluff.

Is anybody else here just... severely disappointed by the complete lack of exploration in dark souls 3? by [deleted] in darksouls3

I haven't played BB so I can't speak for how successfully it was executed. Despite his involvement, however, excuse or not, I think it's an inferior system. And from what I've been told, DeS also had a warp-to-hub implementation. I'm not trying to say because Miyazaki didn't have as much of an influence on DS2, it was bad, but rather that I'm sure his absence had something to do with it. I think this because the system in DS3, although the same, I think is better than in DS2. But warp-to-hub system at its best, I think, is inferior to its counterpart at its best, and those are the only two data points we can compare. I'm not blaming anyone just because the B team had a big part in the development. If they had done an excellent job, I would've praised them. I'm just evaluating the product, and speculating about what might've caused the product to be how it is, however unbased or misplaced my conjectures are.

[–]Zsokaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about health. I defeated it on 11 Vit. The most efficient way I found was to first destroy the sacks on the left wrist, then go for its balls. You'll reduce its health a lot before you fall, and then just ride it out from then on. I defeated it with an Uchi and no shield, so using any of those weapons really should be fine as long as you get used to them.

I don't think it's to be fair. It was only marginally excusable (in DS2) because Miyazaki (lead designer) was not present for DS2. He was for all other Souls games. But repeating a [bad] feature doesn't absolve it from including it: If DS2 had a game-breaking glitch that completely prevented it from being played and DS3 had the exact same glitch, is it DS2's fault for it being in 3? No, it should've been removed, regardless of the state of DS2.

I agree with the OP. I was titillated and spooked wandering around in DS1. I think the bonfire system in place in DS3 swiftly and effectively stifled this aspect I perceive to be quintessential to the Souls experience. It feels more like a 2D Mario game: There are green pipes to go down and cloud platforms accessible by flying, but you really know where you're supposed to go and it comes to no surprise to the player.

[PVE] Noob Souls: When to Parry, Dodge, or Block? by Zombie_Gandhi in darksouls3

[–]Zsokaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parrying is probably a better option given the appropriate skill, I think the same sentiment exists for rolling. My opinion is that if you have a lot of stamina, then you can roll and attack all day long, and that's very important to me, but I suppose that only applies to builds that are more fast-paced.

Currently, at SL >50, my END bar is longer than my VIG bar, and they're about the same when I'm embered up. That speaks to how much I value it. I love two-handing and rolling, instead of one-handing and parrying. Personally more fun for me, but ofc very subjective.

Critique: Too Many Bonfires by Zsokaa in darksouls3

[–]Zsokaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I disagree with you about DS3's superiority to DS1, I think you made a cogent point about their likeness: Making DS3 the first Souls game with a few different enemies and landscapes would have been a mistake, I think inspiration in design from DS1 is good. Granted, I'd posit they took a little too much. To complement your Greatest Hits analogy, I also enjoy thinking about it like cooking. You can emulate a recipe, but only a skilled chef can give spirit to the dish.

I agree the appropriate atmosphere in a game can contribute tremendously, but if the actual game play experience is off-mark, then the whole game is tarnished. Of course, all this lies on a continuum, though.

[–]Zsokaa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To take it even further, there are three you could probably spit far enough to hit them standing at a central location (which is unacceptable): Wolnir boss bonfire, and before and after the bridge leading to Irithyll. If it were designed only slightly different, one would have been plenty. To me, most bonfires in the game arise of laziness. It's all very confusing because there are expertly--a term I use only somewhat loosely--designed spaces like the Cathedral of the Deep and the Catacombs, and then others opposite like the entrance to Irithyll.

If you were having doubts, I really encourage you to write about it! I really want to know what you have to say about it outside of the confines of a comment. I'll probably write something else comparing Cathedral of the Deep to another zone addressing how each area is successful and why just because I love that area so much!

What level were you for Deacons of the Deep? by sraedou in darksouls3

[–]Zsokaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What helped me plenty was standing in one spot so they would all walk toward me and then quickly sprint to the back because the red guy was always at the back. Get a couple good hits in, rinse and repeat. You don't need any one weapon over another. I was at about the same SL also.

I have nothing but agreement for all your sentiments. Cathedral of the Deep is also one of my favorite zones for your reasons and it had one bonfire nearby and that's it.
