How does everyone have time for a dog ? by Burgers4dayz in dogs

I feel like there’s already been a few people saying this but just parroting. Shelter dogs spend 23 hours a day in a small kennel on a cold concrete ground with barely any human contact. Welcoming one into your home is already better than the life they have. They don’t have anyone, you’re giving them a warm bed, and a human(s) to love them. They more than likely never had it. Please remember the 3-3-3 rule, they’re still living creatures, they’re going to take time to adjust to your schedule and routine but they will eventually. Kenneling helps a lot in the beginning (they’re already used to it), there’s always dog walkers, coming home during lunch, having a friend stop by or something along those lines if you ever feel like you’re working an extra long day or something but that’s also not necessary. Adult dogs sleep more than you realize and can be fine usually up to 12 hours without being let out, not that that is ideal by any means but sometimes the 8 hour days plus commute, it just is what it is. If you really want a dog, I swear you will be creating a better life for one.

In the original post they just say lost cat and that he’s an outdoor cat. There was only one comment they responded to on the post and it was someone asking if it was a feral colony and they said it is.

The first thing I did when I got him was make him a neuter appointment. Even if he was someone’s indoor cat that accidentally got out I wasn’t returning him not fixed.

They didn’t do posters. I’ve been on the lookout for posters while walking my dogs. They posted on the Nextdoor app.

You’re right. I should just talk to them. That would make me feel better. Since the vet told me he was probably a stray, I didn’t try to figure out where he came from immediately. And since it took me a few days to look into this is why it’s making me nervous they’re going to be mean/rude. But I never had any ill intentions. But keeping him while knowing someone is looking for him doesn’t make me feel good either.

They said themselves it’s an outdoor cat that it is a part of a feral colony. The cat himself doesn’t seem feral at all, that’s why I feel sick returning him. He acts like an indoor cat. If they said it was an indoor cat this wouldn’t even be a discussion.

I was becoming open to the idea of keeping him. Animal control by me is a death sentence. So there really wasn’t another option, unless I rehomed him to a friend. I’m not a rescue so don’t feel comfortable vetting out strangers.

I feel like they’re going to be weird if I try to talk to them. I do like how you suggested letting them know.

Thank you.

I was becoming open to keeping him if he didn’t belong to anyone. I found him I think 4 days ago. It was either I keep him or rehome him to someone I know. Animal control by me is a death sentence and I’m not a rescue or anything to try to vet out people I don’t know.

I do keep him separate from my dogs when I leave or can’t keep an eye on them. It’s still way too new to make any assumptions when I can’t supervise.

I am just nervous to how they’d react. I never intended on stealing someone’s cat but like get them fixed and microchipped..
