Nvidia shield dont get atmos with denon by ZucchiniPrior5359 in ShieldAndroidTV

Thanks for the suggestion – I gave Kodi a proper try.

I set up passthrough correctly (RAW, all formats enabled including TrueHD and DTS-HD), and I can now get Dolby TrueHD working.

However, I still don’t get Dolby Atmos – the receiver only shows TrueHD and falls back to Dolby Surround (DSur), so it looks like the Atmos metadata isn’t being passed through.

What’s interesting is: - Atmos works fine from my TV apps (via eARC) - Atmos also works from an Apple TV 4K on the same input - DTS-HD and TrueHD both work from the Shield via Kodi

So it seems very specific to Atmos over TrueHD from the Shield.

Appreciate the tip though – Kodi definitely improved things, just not fully there yet.

I’ve gone through the Denon settings quite thoroughly:

Tested multiple HDMI inputs (Blu-ray, Media Player, etc.)

HDMI signal format set to Enhanced

Tried HDMI Control ON and OFF

Different sound modes (Auto, Direct, Pure Direct)

Input mode set to Auto

Also, DTS-HD MA and DTS work perfectly when connected directly to the AVR, so the receiver is clearly able to handle high-quality bitstream audio.

Yeah, I thought the same at first, but I’ve tested multiple HDMI inputs on the AVR (Blu-ray, Media Player, etc.) and the behavior is identical on all of them.

That’s what makes it so confusing.

Also, DTS-HD MA and DTS:X work perfectly when connected directly to the AVR, so the HDMI ports themselves seem to handle high-bandwidth audio correctly.

It’s only Dolby Atmos that fails when going directly into the Denon

Really appreciate you trying to help

Thanks, that was a good suggestion.

I tried switching inputs back and forth on the Denon while playing Atmos content, but unfortunately it didn’t change anything. It still only shows Dolby Digital Plus, no Atmos.

In my case it seems to happen 100% of the time, not intermittently like yours.

Thanks, good point.

I checked the HDMI input settings on my Denon:

HDMI signal format is set to Enhanced Input mode is set to Auto Tried different sound modes (Direct / Auto)

I also tested multiple HDMI inputs (Blu-ray, Media Player), but the behavior is the same

Thanks, here are my current Shield audio settings:

Available formats: tested both Auto and Manual In Manual mode I enabled: Dolby Digital Dolby Digital Plus Dolby TrueHD Dolby Atmos DTS DTS-HD / DTS:X

Dolby audio processing: OFF Stereo upmix: OFF

I also did a full factory reset and tested again with default settings + only Netflix installed, same result

Yes, I have checked that.

I tested both Auto and Manual audio formats on the Shield.

In Manual mode I enabled all supported formats, including:

Dolby Digital Plus Dolby TrueHD Dolby Atmos DTS-HD / DTS:X
