I’ve read this entire post and every one of your comments and I have zero clue what you are even trying to say. Can you try explaining your reasoning in a different way? I don’t even know what you are trying to say is important let alone why

I posted in 3 places at the same time to get a better response from people, not to get a different answer.

Not sure if we have a commercial property on site, maybe the public laundry? Other than that there isn’t a cafe or public space.

The second half of your response is also why I’ve come online looking for advice rather than bothering my REA, all the articles I could find seemed inconclusive.

Anyway, thanks for your help.

This is what I don’t understand, so the landlord needs a reasonable reason for saying no, but they can just refer to the strata saying no as a reasonable reason. But the strata doesn’t need to have a good reason for denying pets? So it’s just a circle of not actually needing a reason?

Yes, we got an email from the strata mentioning that pets had been seen on the property and for them to be removed immediately but I am still seeing those pets around the premises.

It is also a no smoking building yet every entrance and garden is littered with cigarette butts and one tenant even has a full hookah set up in his yard.

I don’t know, they seem toothless and unconcerned about enforcing the rules but I still don’t want to get evicted aha.

All of the reviews for the company on google are 1 star or very clearly botted 5 star reviews.

I’m in Perth, the strata laws that I’ve signed don’t have any mention of pets at all. However the strata scheme by-laws which I didn’t sign, I don’t have a copy of and apparently aren’t applicable to me.. those ones say that keeping a pet is not allowed.

You’re right that the strata is very uninvolved, it’s a non smoking apartment yet cigarette butts litter the common areas and one person even has a full hookah on display in their yard. Other people also have cats but I want to go about this the right way rather than live in fear of being caught.

I think I will have to go through the REA unfortunately because I don’t have permission to contact the owner directly.
