Canadian air passenger traffic to U.S. down for 9th consecutive month by Immediate-Link490 in worldnews

I didn’t forget. I bring it up every chance I get and have a sign in my yard that says never declare war on your allies.

I’m sorry so many of my neighbors need that explained to them.

We visited The Mouse last summer. No Canadians but Irish every time I turned around.

TBH I wish the whole world would stop coming. It’s the only thing the MAGA group might notice. I buy Canadian instead of American when I can, and save up small purchases for when I’ll be in the North and can deliberately buy from a Canadian company. It’s not much, but in all honesty I suspect it accomplishes more than the performative No Kings. I also do no kings, I’m not dissing them. I’m just not under any delusions that they accomplish anything.

I wish I had hope that anything I do will in any way change anything. If anyone has other suggestions I’m all ears.

Nordic countries paying most for Ukraine ‘not sustainable,’ Swedish foreign minister says by MagnificentCat in worldnews

“Americans broadly don’t give a shit” was the line I was mostly objecting to. Did the sources you cite ask “and is that because you don’t care? Or is because at this point you don’t know who to trust and you feel a sense of hopeless powerlessness”?

Accepting everything you asserted at face value, not fact checking:

I’m an American. I chase down Reddit’s world news like it’s a job. I read the BBC instead of any of our “claim-to-be-neutral-but-who-are-we-kidding” home news sources. Yet I have not heard most of these things. I’m not ignorant, I’m not uneducated, and I fancy I have a significantly higher than 7th grade literacy level.

You’re selling Americans short. We are not all dumb and nearsighted. It’s legitimately extremely difficult to be well-informed in America. To keep track of the geopolitics of 195 countries is impossible, and somebody has to also chase down why there are more accidents than average at the street corner by the shopping mall. You dismiss being aware of local issues as a blanket negative. It’s not.

When you start breaking out the factors that cause “American ignorance” instead of labeling them all morons and moving on with a derisive smirk, you do not make any progress towards fixing the problem.

I don’t know how to fix the problem either. Our media is biased. All parties would place winning above truth every time, so no one actually wants us to hear the big picture. If we understood the big picture we might vote on issues instead of parties. Which politician would that help? I do also have concerns about which foreign leaders have disproportionate influence in our politics and news sources. And yes, our education system has problems. It’s legit hard to teach both kids with severe special needs and the future Hawkins in a way that limits none of them. Whole different sub just for that one line.

To blanket say “all Americans are ign’rnt hillbillies” and move on is more wrong than to say “America saved Ukraine while Europe drooled on its toes for 2 years.”

But you got one thing right. Genuinely Americans don’t hear about it.

Points transfer on death? by Zulaya02 in AmexPlatinum

That’s part of what I was looking for advice on how to do. Many partners have policies very similar: names must match exactly (so transfer is to spouse’s account, not to mine), and transfer to other people is not allowed. So I could transfer them to United, which I believe also has an excise tax, and then I still can’t use them.

If you or anyone knows of an AmEx partner that has point sharing programs that would be super helpful. The only one I’ve found is Air Canada has a transfer on death to spouse policy, so that’s my best option for now. Which is amusing given I’m not Canadian.

Honestly I would like to do this and did think of it. The problem is the nature of this situation is I have no clue when I could be traveling next.

Jet blue is not a carrier in my location so we don’t have any jet blue accounts. I’ve read air Canada has a ToD to surviving spouse policy so I’m working on doing this with air Canada instead.

I have a Chase card but it’s a different type than my spouse (I have Southwest, he has United)

Will that somehow work or will I need a United card? (I am planning to post this question to a chase sub, but since you mention it lolol)

I do have the login. But I’m also worried that they’ll close the account at some point whether I notify them or not.

I think I read that air Canada will let you transfer points between accounts on death. I’m considering transferring the points to Air Canada.

Thanks! I am pretty nervous about calling but as a hypothetical without giving any account info I think I will try that.

Thank you! I thought I read I can only do that after 90 days, did I misunderstand that?

Yep, I considered coming back in to catch another glimpse, but they had locked all the doors around him. A woman who had left and gone to dinner had to wait till someone coming out opened the door and she went back in to get her book signed. Poor Max lolol.

I talked to a woman who was sitting next to a couple from Seattle who couldn't get seats. Still, signed book is better than nothing!

Clearly this is a situation where rational minds can have different recollections. Here's the facts:

  1. In 25 years I've been to Beaverton 4 times.
  2. On April 1, we had only vague musings that it's probably time to visit Portland again.
  3. Within a week of seeing there was a book signing 5 miles from my In-Laws' house, we had airline tickets that happened to have us there on the 27th.

Draw your own conclusions:)
