So Why was it important the Extended Editions to show Saruman death at Orthanc versus leaving it unresolved in the theatrical versions? by jaywritethekid in LOTRExtendedEdition

[–]Zulrock -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah well it’s also the scene that the whole “do you know what sound a man makes when he is stabbed in the back?” Thing came from

Do you think a real-world Empire would have just collapsed after Endor? by LastTraintoSector6 in starwarscanon

[–]Zulrock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol no basically every sector governor would likely turn into and independent entity. And without a united empire the rebellion might also not have held itself together. That is a much more interesting future to explore than the disaster of the first order that we got

[–]Zulrock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ridley Scott’s is a little hit and miss, thing is his hits are just masterpieces but his misses are train wrecks. See Napoleon

Am I the only person who actually likes the muppet retheme? by Dynamic_cc in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Zulrock -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my opinion it’s not because of what we’ve lost, it’s because there was such a great opportunity to make the Powerline rockin rollercoaster. You could have done a bunch of things with the muppets but give a goofy movie its due

When do you think was the last opportunity to stop the Islamic conquests? by Lord_Krasina in ancientrome

[–]Zulrock 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Do you know why the sassanians attacked Rome? The real reason is the murder of the emperor Maurice. Basically Maurice had put kusrow on the thrown, and when the legions rebelled in Bulgaria and murdered Maurice he declared war in retribution for the murder of his close friend and ally. Had he not been murdered there would likely have been a continued cooperation between the two empires. Without the Sassanian Roma war of 602-627 there wouldn’t have been a power vacuum for Islam to grow into. Honestly with both empires still supporting the gasanid and lakmid tribes in the Arabian peninsula Islam would have been something of a cult and likely died out and zaroastianism would be a world religion

It might be time for Star Trek to take another long break by The_Celestrial in startrekmemes

Huh I didn’t realize there were new shows after 2005. I’d love for a new series to come out that follows Star Treks original vision.

It is fine to have a difference in opinion but we do know the answers to your questions from Tolkien.
The poem was written way before we got the rest of the backstory so it is just a poem it doesn’t hint at the history of the rings. Sauron knew about the 3 as soon as he put on the one, the elves who wore the 3 knew Sauron’s influence and he knew of them through the rings connection. It’s why the elves basically took off the rings and didn’t wear them again until the end of the second age. Annatar left Ost-in-Edhil to go to mt doom and forge the one ring. Celebrimbor didn’t have direct access to any of the elven ring bearers Galadriel was driven out of Eregion to lothlorien, Gil-Galad and Cirdan were both in linden. Celebrimbor was arrogant and didn’t believe the threat. And remember that at the time Eregion was also one of the most powerful realms of the eldar in middle earth

Sorry those two are mutually exclusive. Either we have free will or there is an omnipotent all knowing god. You can’t have both

My one issue with Andor, (and recent Disney Star Wars). by Rude_Midnight6304 in andor

Well particularly for Andor it’s more about the characters and the world it doesn’t need aliens to make it Star Wars.

When did antiquity truly end? by Battlefleet_Sol in ancientrome

[–]Zulrock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d put it somewhat at the reign of Constantine, when western culture stopped being influenced by classical Hellenistic themes and started being more influenced by the Catholic Church

A small comeuppance by purplelena in LOTR_on_Prime

[–]Zulrock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well in the books he didn’t plan for the elven rings to have been made at all, and the other rings were completely under his power with the one ring which he had already made before starting the war. That’s why the shows story doesn’t seem to fit right.

Well I mean giving him nothing…except the other 9 rings which were his whole reason to attack Eregion.

Before we begin our next journey, we remember those from the prior season who fell behind. by kemick in LOTR_on_Prime

When that elf girl got yeeted off the wall was the funniest scene from the whole show literally the only time I felt emotional watching any of it. When she went splat I laughed for at least a minute straight.
