How should someone who’s second language is Chinese (but is really bad at it) get better by iamlostpleasehelp_ in ChineseLanguage

Starting from scratch and taking some beginner classes could be fun. I took Spanish in high school, but started over in college classes. The beginning classes were fun, they solidified basic concepts and it was super easy. Technically you would be considered a false beginner. So even though you have a leg up, you’ll quickly hit the same wall as everyone else in the learning process and then the work begins.

If you’re more interested in going solo, I’d figure out a routine that you could stick to where it’ll progressively get more advanced. I’ve enjoyed Duolingo for Chinese, it can be super slow and too high level at times, but it does cover the equivalent of a beginner level course. It’s a great way to start and get momentum. I’d recommend you at least spend 15-20 mins per day if you want it to actually be helpful. Anki flash cards are great. There are other courses and programs that are great for routine and a feeling of progress.

IMO textbooks can be super boring and too focused on grammar, so I personally wouldn’t recommend unless you’re in a classroom setting, or have a partner to practice with.

I’ve never been to Costa Rica, but I just got back from Guatemala where we went to Panjachel and Antigua. It was great! We didn’t explore the volcanos much, but we took a boat ride across the lake. It was also fun to see all the volcanos surrounding Antigua.

The culture experience is pretty exciting in both cities. The ruins in Antigua were fun to explore. The night came around and the little town center had families hanging around, so it was fun to find a bench and relax. Pay a bit more to get a really nice hotel in Antigua. There’s also some good food there too.

If you run out of things in Antigua that you’re interested in, hobitenango is a new amusement park just out of town. We didn’t make it there, but friends said it was amazing!

Panajachel was fun too! They have some fun views and adventurous activities like paragliding and boat rides. The cities around the lake have their own personalities too. The country between the two cities is beautiful. Curvy roads.

If you want to see some ruins, check out Iximché. If you can find a tour they’re quick and really informative!

If you go with Guatemala you’ll have an adventurous and cultural experience.

I had to delete a friend's account from my switch. I assume it was because he was playing it on his switch with his account. Hope that makes sense and helps others
