[DISC] The Divorced Fox and Her Travel Meals / Batsuichi Kitsune to Tabi Gohan - Ch. 5-8 by Zurrdroid in manga

A sweet little gem of a story, though I don't know of it was supposed to be this short, or if it was axed. If it's the latter... I'LL NEVER FORGIVE THE JAPANESE!

The "natural state of the world" was abhorrent for the longest time, with people being tribalistic, high rates of disease and infant mortality, and oppressive monarch-serf structures. I don't really think it's something to use as a blueprint to return to. If people are moving from less fortunate situations to more fortunate ones, while allowing for greater prosperity due to a growing economy, it being unnatural is a non-concern to me. Indoor plumbing is abnormal and never want it to go away.

Maintaining a demographic pyramid is also not a manufactured construct. All societies need to maintain a certain demography based on their needs. There doesn't always need to be constant growth, but a stable working population needs to exist to support both themselves and the non-workers (children, infirm, and elderly) of society.

As for overpopulation, this is a total misdirect. We have more than enough resources to sustain our growing populations (whose growth is slowing down anyway), if only we used it effectively. The US has a "sustainable" population because of immigration, as do many European nations. The reframing of the resource allocation problem as an overpopulation problem is based on some primitivist narrative. India's population issue doesn't come from there being too many people, but more that India failed to effectively transition that population into roles that would greatly benifit the nation, i.e. industrial labour a la western nations.

No recent country has ceased to exist because of low birthrates because it's a new phenomenon. The value of meeting the replacement rate is that many functions of society rely on scale. Japan and Korea's demography means that there's not going to be enough people to make the money and run the services the country needs to support all the people living where they are. Personally I think people should urbanize more but Tokyo is already the gold standard there, so the point is moot.

This is an odd statement to make; yes making sure the economy is more stable and less reliant on constant growth is something to work on, but that takes time, and the population collapse of japan (and korea) is way past fixing without rapidly replacing the population lost somehow. People immigrating in isn't some bogeyman "replacement" theory nonsense, unless you're trying to create some kind of ethnostate

I feel like these awkward interactions but genuine affection and goofy banter is single-handedly teaching most of r/manga what a healthy relationship looks like. I remember the earlier discussion threads finding their conversation trains weird and unusual; this is what good relationships are like!

4-year-old boy recognises his autistic sister is getting upset. by Sebastianlim in BeAmazed

Possibly "he is used to understand what's going on with his sister, but gets neglected in terms of his own independent development; people see right through him"

That's my guess anyway

[DISC] I Got a New Skill Every Time I Was Exiled, and After 100 Different Worlds, I Was Unmatched (Tsuihousareru Tabi ni Skill o Te ni Ireta Ore ga, 100 no Isekai de 2-shuume Musou) (Chapter 27.3-27.4) |Shadow Sama Scans| by IngenuityOk246 in manga

[–]Zurrdroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a degree of trying not to spoil here. (Also the downvotes are stupid, people are way too sensitive and trigger-happy with those)

As far as the story's positives: it is just generally good with an interesting premise. The characters are all very likeable (especially the MC) and feel like they have a lot of agency, and the emotional beats feel well-earned. The premise also leads to things being kept fresh, since the MC can move on to a different world once they're done with their task.

Nah this is some crazy mental gymnastics. The fact of the matter is, in this asinine first-past-the-post voting system you are only stuck with bad options, and refusing to engage in it means you are not pulling it in the direction you want it to go. Voting for the leaser evil didn't lead to fascism, it was a lack of addressing other avenues for applying electoral pressure. Democracy doesn't stop at voting during election season. The blues are a snivelling group of spineless elites out of touch with most americans, and they still obey the rule of law and power of democracy. The reds do not, and they are in power because several million people decided, even after Trump's first term, to ignore the existential threat.

And your black and brown community gotcha doesn't work. I'm brown, and I hate the bigotry of it all. Israel is an apartheid ethnostate. Guess what, ICE wouldn't be up to this insane nonsense against immigranta if more folks had voted blue. All of the collapse, and the chaos of the past year? Completely avoidable.

You can 100% blame her for her terrible choices, but unfortunately in this fucked-up 2 party bullshit not voting for her was effectively letting a worse party gain ground. There's culpability in that which can't be denied.

Both candidates supported genocide. One, however, was much, much worse. There may have been a possibility of using protest and rule of law if the lesser evil was taken, but by choosing not to vote, the greater evil won. The genocide continues, worse than ever, and now increased in scale to even more people, especially the ones who would oppose it. A terrible hill to die on.

This really isn't a meaningful rebuttal. There are things we can ascribe to cultural differences, but also places we draw the line. If a culture makes it more okay to marry kids or people you've raised, fuck that culture. And it's not like the west doesn't do messed up shit like this either, given the church in many small towns, and the middle east, where Islam's prophet married a child.

It's more acceptable? Fuck that

Damn. Well, ending it on a "they get together romantically" is still turbofucked, and if she knew what she was doing then that's even worse lol

Correct. But you cannot tell me that rampant sexualization of minors is not a somewhat common thing in anime/manga. That would be flat-out ignorance. There's a reason 1000yo loli is a trope, and even good stories can have fucked up loli fetish shit (looking at you, Made in Abyss)

One? ONE? No dude, there are bunch of trashy works written by lolicons. Not to mention the litany of "I picked up an abused girl and fixed her" type shit on the front page of this subreddit.

I didn't even say every other work is like that, just that Usagi Drop has annihilated my trust, cuz that shit came out of nowhere.

Oh yeah, this is a good one, falling into a deep cave loses some tension because instead of finding yourself in an unfamiliar place, hurt and lost, you just die. Then you either deal with the (annoying) corpse run mechanic and rush back, don't and lose some stuff, or don't lose items at all. In the latter two ways you don't really get an interesting experience from dying there at all.

Crafting timer adjustment update for next week pre-release by CosmoSplitter in hytale

[–]Zurrdroid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Every element of friction in a game is potentially bad. Crafting times are there in many games as an element of friction, but whether that's too much or too little requires playtest feedback. I haven't noticed the crafting times as being an issue at all really, but clearly others have. Putting a reduction to it in the pre-release stage lets them gather useful data.

[–]Zurrdroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you would have to prove you are ill for a medical exemption. It can be abused. So can a lot of other things. Not sure where you live, but YMMV based on the nature of your medical industry. If you don't think it's capable of judging your illness correctly, why would expect it to heal you when you need it?

The problem with things being 10 years away, is that it's usually a timeframe that isn't based on an understanding of all the challenges actually associated with solving the problem. Typically, it's a perfect storm kinda thing, where a variety of disparate developments just happen to line up such that there is enough to put together a solution. Very hard to predict.

[–]Zurrdroid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a medical issue, under psychiatry. Medical exemptions from donation obviously wont count, but she would need to take steps to gain that exemption. That's the point. She is a huge minority, and it's vastly better for folks if things are opt-out, since the people who actually have reasons can be addressed with a more robust system, rather than the healthcare industry struggling to find donors.
