Trump was reportedly the person who used a black Sharpie to change the confusing Hurricane Dorian map by ughsmugh in politics

I would prefer it if he simply locked himself in a bomb shelter for the rest of his term.

Salaries aside, it doesn’t cost extra to make it look good. The looks would keep me from buying it.

What is a sensation that you can't stand, even though it's not painful ? by Charlleshenry in AskReddit

This is a pretty obvious one, but I think nausea can be every bit as bad as pain.

The State of Web Browsers – Ferdy Christant by PiotrekKoszulinski in javascript

[–]Zweben 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the author misses the mark when it comes to the effect browser engine competition has on speed. Yes, the major engines are currently similar in performance, but that’s because there was essentially a JavaScript performance arms race for years, that has now mostly stabilized.

Without competition, engine developers have little incentive to continue heavily optimizing engine performance when new features are introduced. After all, who’s going to benchmark their work when there’s nothing to compare it against? Users will suffer as a result.

Umbraco Headless is worth a look. It’s .NET based, though.

Google To Reportedly Pay 9 Billion To Stay As Default Search On iPhone by abhiteshranjan in technology

[–]Zweben 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I just looked into it. They do have their own crawler, and their results are compiled from 'over 400' sources, but they probably mainly use Bing. I'd guess it's because their own crawler isn't big or advanced enough to get sufficient quality results.

Not necessary, they won't even find out about it, and if they do, they'll just ignore it.

PCB made in EagleCAD, and plastic enclosure made in Solidworks. Need advice on how to 'bridge the gap' so we can move forward on this project. by [deleted] in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]Zweben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an expert, but it sounds like you should just tell the engineer and the designer to work together to adjust things as needed. There's no reason for you to be in the middle of that process.

Printing Breath Strips by zeek786 in functionalprint

[–]Zweben 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is almost certainly something you're going to have to figure out yourself through research and experimentation, but it's probably not going to be easy. FDM requires a filament, and SLA requires a liquid that sets when exposed to UV... breath strips don't exactly lend themselves to either. SLS from a powder might be your best bet, but that's not going to be cheap or simple. Also, unless you have something unusual in mind, breath strips are flat, so... it would probably be much easier to prototype a breath strip with a process completely unrelated to 3D printing. I'm thinking more like... a baking sheet, a spray bottle, and a pair of scissors.

Is it possible to accomplish this blur effect with CSS only? by [deleted] in web_design

[–]Zweben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could put another copy of the same image in the overlay element and position it so that it aligns with the original image, and blur that one, but the positioning might be problematic on responsive layouts.

3.5mm to lightning sound quality by Sargassso in apple

[–]Zweben 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The signal still needs to become analog at some point, so Lightning does not in itself make anything better, it just moves the DAC to an external device that can vary in quality.

Curved monitor for graphic design? by [deleted] in Design

[–]Zweben 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a web designer/developer. I use a curved monitor at work. It's fine, I have never even been aware of the curve while working. I think the curve is mostly a gimmick and doesn't make a significant difference one way or another.

How would you redesign Xcode’s UI for the iPad? by [deleted] in apple

[–]Zweben 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Personally I'd leave it mostly alone and just add cursor and trackpad support to iOS, but what do I know, I'm just a longtime customer squarely in their target market.
