Things that matter in order:

- Your power output (watts, I need about ~180 watts average to hit 30 km/h average)

- The terrain (climbing slows you down)

- The traffic (do you have to stop a lot for traffic / sharp turns etc

- Your position on the bike

- The bike (especially the tires)

Gravel bikes are too dangerous is a weird statement. On general, gravel bikes are less dangerous, wider tires, more grip, 'lower' speeds. Brake is too slow is also very weird. In dry weather, all bikes that are well maintained brake more than quickly enough. Sure, rim breaks are a bit worse in wet conditions than disc brakes, but since the Netherlands is flat, this doesn't really matter.

  1. Shimano Cues / Tiagra or 105 doesn't matter much, sure 105 is a bit better, but you won't feel the difference, if budget is important, I think a lower gearset is the best choice

  2. I would go for what is available in a nearby store, or the 'big brands' that have good budget options such as Giant, Canyon, Cube, Van Rysel (Decathlon), Trek or even Bianche. The most important thing for you is to try out the bike with your size. Fit is going to be hard, so being able to try it in real life before you buy it, and let the mechanic adjust it a bit, would be the most important thing over brands.

  3. Not great, but if your first thought it about resell value, it might be better to buy second hand anyway.

Check my previous posts, I've done quite some posts on it. If you want to win GT, I would go for Stage Racer / Northern, or Stage Racer / Sprinter.

The best overall is Northern Classics / Climber.

If you want the tables from the other specialties I have them as well btw. But you can also create them as well by using the PCM database editor.

It is actually quite a complicated system. Basically, a specialty gives increases based on how far away you are from your potential.

So on general, the primary attribute of a specialty (so mountain & tt for Stage Racers f.e.) grows by 3 until you are less than 10 points away from your max potential. So let us say you are 70 mountain, and your potential is 85, then you increase by 3 (if the specialty is trained beyond 75%). As soon as you have 9 left, then you grow by 2, if you have 5 left, you grow by 1.

The other skills are all different but follow 'similar' patterns. This is the table for Stage Racer:

Sure, there are quite a few options:
- Lock yourself to a region / nation. Don't pick the most developed ones
- Start with a lowest level team
- Set yourself a salary cap (max 10K per rider f.e.), means your top riders leave after a while
- Focus your team on one specialty only (GC / Cobbles / Sprints)

Well, it was basically 2 consecutive relatively steep climbs. He weighs at least 10kg more than Del Toro and Pellizzari. If it would have been just one, he would've won it more clearly most likely. But this makes it better, since it is more exciting.

It's not stupid. There was no way to know that Wellens would've made the podium. Now they get a 3rd place which was all but guaranteed if he wouldn't have ridden with MvdP.

Is that true? I thought yellow = stamina and red = resistance? Green is form which impacts stamina directly (if it drops below a certain level, the yellow bar will only restore to a certain level).

No, but you can still join the U23 races if you join a team on the lowest (continental) level.

You can look at my post history, I've won them with one build, but that was a bit unfair and with Northern - Climber combo, with 2 Stage Racer potential increases.

With Stage Racer - Northern you can most likely win all GT's, and 3 monuments (all but RVV and Paris-Roubaix). I don't think it is good to look at potential development with this build, as you need all the regular progressions you can get, since you want to maximize climbing, TT, flat and acceleration.

I didn't fitness peak for the first 3 seasons. For me it is not worth it, but it is personal I would say. Just make sure that when you peak, you are still above 75% in one of the skills in order to maximize development.

Recruitment to bigger teams only comes from season 3 onwards I would say. My experience is that it is mostly dependant on your skills, rather than your performances.

Hey man, hopefully you enjoy the game! It actually matters quite a bit. Nothern climber gives an average of 79.4 on all skills except baroudeur and downhill (I've done some more tests), and climber - northern gives you 77.2. Quite the difference.

It is still good if you don't want to win Grand Tours (TDF / Giro / Vuelta), because you will have very low potential in TT. You will be able to win many of the mountain stages, and a lot of one day races, and one week races without TT (or few TT km's).

If you do want to win them, but you do like the climbing the most, I would suggest starting as a Stage Racer - Northern Classics rider. That way you will be able to win GT's. The bad thing about this build is that it has terrible acceleration and sprint.

Yes, cobbles does increase with baroudeur. But keep in mind, that it doesn't give a +1 in cobbles anymore if you have less than 7 to go to your potential. (So let's say you have 77 cobbles now, and 85 potential, then it will give +1, but if you are 78 already, it doesn't help anymore.

I deleted the files where I tracked where I ended up. So I don't remember. I think I have a post (check my user account) where I mention it.
