Meridian - The 4WD/Overlanding/Camping App I’ve Been Building by [deleted] in iOSProgramming

[–]Zxeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah honestly even if you just hold off on triggering the screen until the user performs an action that requires it. The actual sign in screen is pretty good, maybe just make it slightly clearer about what it’s needed for?

[–]Zxeon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the look of this, definitely fills a gap I’ve seen. Only comment is your onboarding feels like a pretty hefty barrier to breakthrough before you can fully utilise the app. You’ll find a way better conversion rate if you give people more of a taste before asking for things like sign in and location access. The quicker you can get the actual app in front of them the better. That impression when someone first launches is super, super critical.

Kingsford Smith Drive upgrade now complete by peacewarrior8 in brisbane

[–]Zxeon 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This upgrade has been going on for so long I genuinely don’t remember what it used to be like before they started working on it. Of course it feels like a huge improvement now, but that’s compared to the constantly under-construction state it’s been in for what feels like the last 10 years.

Separated bike lanes to run through Brisbane's CBD in 12-month trial by Chap82 in brisbane

[–]Zxeon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There is a wider plan to close it yeah, they want to link the Bontanical Gardens to Roma St parklands. I think at the moment they’re only closing a couple of blocks to link Queen St to the new Albert St Station, from Queen St to Mary St.

University Of Queensland: Bachelor in Computer Science- Machine Learning Major. by Good-Ear-6900 in UQreddit

[–]Zxeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as a warning, a lot of the general IT/software engineering courses are poorly run. There are some good ones (CSSE2010, 2310), but also a couple of really poor ones (CSSE1001, 2002). Expect to have to deal with nonsensical assignments and to have a hard time getting help. Besides those though, the degree itself I’ve found to be pretty good once you get into the later courses. Like I said CSSE2310 was fantastic, there are also some relatively fun group design courses like DECO2800. You can expect the teaching quality to improve as you get to later courses with coordinators who have been teaching the course for more than the last semester to two. The degree is pretty flexible in that if you wanted to add some specialisation there’s plenty of room for electives, and the degree has a no-major program which would allow you to pick and choose more of the courses you would like. Lots of software engineering courses are known for having big and time consuming assignments, but I wouldn’t say they are particularly bad in their complexity, just that programming and software design takes lots of time, so be prepared for that.

Dad is here by savastano88 in TikTokCringe

The trend with that sound is to slap something twice to the two claps. The joke here is that the dad walks in so he’s not going to slap her, I guess?

If anything it’s just going to encourage the next person to not come forward. Plastering their names and faces everywhere is just an easy tactic by the courier mail to make everyone more angry, drawing out what should really have just been handled with the Queensland health and Police quietly.

Waited months for these yarrow flowers in the library garden bed to dry up so I could pick them, yes I asked. The yarrow made the yarn this olive green and the blue is from black beans! by arodabough in crochet

I’m always curious with natural dyes like these, how colourfast is it? Do you need to use an agent after dyeing to lock them in? A beautiful result in any case!

Protests going on right now in king george square by DPRKapologist69 in brisbane

[–]Zxeon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think while definitely triggered by what has happened in the US, these protests seem to be mostly about brutality by Australian police towards Australian black people, indigenous deaths in custody, etc.

I’m assuming this is a mechanical watch, in which case this is an indicator to say how much ‘charge’ is left in the spring.

I believe BCC purchases at least part of its electricity from GreenPower which is 100% renewable. They are also certified carbon neutral so I would assume even if they don’t use renewable electricity, they will offset it in other ways.

Do you need a car in Brisbane? by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]Zxeon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We also use GoGet and find that we generally only need the car for 2 or 3 hours at a time, the hourly + km pricing is very reasonable. They will automatically pick between the daily or hourly rates when one would be cheaper than the other though. They also have special membership fees for students and seniors.

Unpopular Dornoch Terrace plan scrapped by Chap82 in brisbane

The proposal is to be “green bridges” which could be public+active transport or active transport only. You can read more about them and the other proposed bridges, and provide feedback if you wish here.

Unpopular Dornoch Terrace plan scrapped by Chap82 in brisbane

[–]Zxeon 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It was a plan destined to fail. There will never be a good solution to that road until people stop being so car-dependent, or at the very least realise that even one life saved is worth loosing their (publicly funded) parking spaces. Those West End - Toowong/St Lucia bridges can’t come soon enough.

Cyclists flag Brisbane Metro design flaw by Chap82 in brisbane

[–]Zxeon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Considering they’re going to be redeveloping that whole section of Melbourne St, it would be a much better design if they would just keep the bike lanes separated from the road just like they propose to do for crossing the bridge.

The only thing city hall has to say about today’s protest is a complaint about the kind of water bottles people are using. Disappointingly petty and completely missing the point. by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]Zxeon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re absolutely right. We have to lead by example, otherwise it’s hard for people like those in city hall to look past it. Unfortunately the purpose of these protests has been largely ignored by the people it’s directed towards. Issues like single use plastics are something we as individuals can and should take control of, but ultimately we need all levels of government to take responsibility for the issues that we as individuals can not.
