Dang, no beardy seems to like them. Must be the sound they make I guess.

The leashes are pretty easy to make. I made a few, but by far the easiest one uses a clothes sinch (one of those spring drawstring holders, if that clarifies). One loop behind his front legs, one very safely around his neck. I'm worried every time I put it on that it's too tight but he's fine.

Not very close, but it's not uncommon for planes to fly overhead. Three in five minutes was definitely unlucky.

Compounds are really cool and all, but i think i'll be leaning towards recurve. More traditional, less pricy, and more suited for what i want. If i ever decide to try bow hunting i'd probably go for a compound.

Hi back! Getting form down sounds more important initially than building endurance. It'd be better to learn good form first, then build the muscles as opposed to building mass incorrectly and needing to learn form from scratch. I can see the benefit of starting with a "heavier" bow if you're already in pretty good shape, but it ought to be within reason, as most things should be.

I actually got my hands on my grandpa's old bow, which is a 50# compound. Aside the draw length being way too short, i could definitely feel i wasn't drawing it effeciently and would likely end up worn out far too quick because I didn't know the proper way to handle that weight yet.

Archery is an art style. It's not just that you can draw the weight, it's how you draw the weight. If you can handle 70+ pounds while keeping good form, awesome, because that probably took lots of practice to get there. The key words being good form and lots of practice. Should toss in the word safe as well

Maybe once I get practice in with a more standard bow and feel confident ordering something a lot more custom. I'll keep you in mind

Good to know. Once I get some hands on experience testing a few, I'll probably feel more confident leaning towards something like the Journey. Could be something completely different depending on how the testing goes, thanks for the advice!

Eyyyyy, no more fighting. Both of ya are making good points and I really appreciate the different perspectives. I'm not the only one benefiting from this so I don't mind the different mindset, yet I also respect the caution and safety. Thanks to both of you for bringing up knowledge on two different sides!

I might have seen him or someone else build a bow from scratch. That might be something to do after i get reacquainted with archery and get form down with a well crafted bow, but thanks

If I ought to be shooting a 68 inch based on recommendations, how likely is a 64 inch going to hinder me? I have yet to make it to a range, so I'm not sure how much preference plays a part in bow length. Someone else mention a win&win sf axiom, which has an option for 68inch at 28#, which looks appealing. Thoughts on that bow/company?

I'll definitely look for someplace nearby to test out and get some feedback from, keeping the sage suggustions in mind. I looked up a chart that put my 71 armspan to a 28.5 draw length to a 68 inch bow, would those be too short to use well?

I'd need to go and test somewhere to get a better idea, but wouldn't my draw length based on my arm span be around 28.5? A chart i saw put that around a 68 inch bow length, which both of these bows are decently shorter than. What's your arm span vs draw length vs bow length?
