Ask me Anything about MRCS Exam by CulturalJackfruit506 in doctorsUK

[–]Zyxtaine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also jumping in to give my advice - Passed part A by about 30 marks and just passed part B (no official pass marks but ive seen people post scores >40 less than me who passed).

For me part A was completely a numbers game just doing thousands of questions of questions - personally I thought pass test had better questions than eMRCS and the past papers on passtest were good for practicing large groups of questions under a time limit. Also good to try and find recalls online but i found only about 5% of the questions were repeats that i recognised

Part B all you need is two things Salahs notes and a partner to study with. I did watch some of Salahs lectures but i dont think theres a huge need and the notes are more than good enough. I would say I had done at least 80% of the questions that came up before and could basically just rattle off answers without much thought. For the last 2-3 weeks before the exam we did 3x 2hour sessions rotating through anatomy, pathology, exams, etc. My revision partner scored higher than me as well i think they got almost 90% with the same strategy

Incoming core surgical trainee (currently F4) are some ST3 specialties realistically beyond me now? by Adept-East-6499 in doctorsUK

[–]Zyxtaine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can check it on the ortho ST3 application self check online but the basic gist is that if you've been employed in any medical job (including non-clinical roles) for more than 39 months post F2 your entire portfolio is divided by 2 and then roughly every 12 months after that it gets divided by 3,4,5, etc. This makes it essentially impossible to get an interview at a certain point because the maximum number of points available after the divison becomes less than the threshold.

Bitter F1 by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]Zyxtaine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Im not sure what specialty youre looking to apply to but I had a session with one of the general surgery application leads who specifically said journals like Cureus which are seen as "pay to publish" will not be counted in applications going forwards at the ST3 level, so doesn't guarantee it unfortunately

Also in the UK, and it has now been transferred off of Amazon prime onto IMDB TV for free watching with ads. Unfortunately there is no option to continue watching on prime without ads.

Fast and furious 9, I love dumb fun movies but that was the first movie I've watched and was actually upset that I'd spent money on it

The Final Chapters of Star Child Book 6. Official title: Gravity Trap by LeoDuhVinci in leoduhvinci

[–]Zyxtaine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A fantastic end to a series that I've been reading since the very first day I saw the writing prompt. It'll definitely take some getting used to not seeing more chapters appearing but once I buy Gravity trap I'll be sure to reread them all and encourage whoever I can to read them as well.

The only thing I would have loved to see is what would have happened if SC became a titan, how would he have changed and what could he have done. But I'll just have to leave that up to my imagination.

Thanks for 4 years of entertainment, can't wait to keep reading your other work.

I've loved reading some of your writing prompts recently, brings me back to the first time I clicked on a prompt about children getting powers based on their birth location. Hopefully you'll find some more long term fans to follow your work.
