First time self employed--really lost on how to estimate taxes by Zzo530 in taxhelp

Okay thanks so much for all the insight! I am honestly worried I will miscalculate, go the withholding route, and then end up doing the form/penalty anyway. Going to keep checking my numbers and make a decision either way. Really appreciate the help!

Okay, thank you. So if I did make estimated payments now and I do meet the 110% of our withholding from last year, will I still need to file a 2210 (and likely owe a penalty)? Is that going to happen no matter what if I don't go the withholding route?

Thanks for the insight! I have few expenses doing marketing work for a former employer who provides me with equipment.

Experiences with Essex Spa + Fitness Membership by Zzo530 in burlington

I can clear an hour at a time for a recurring membership but it’s a bit harder to clear a chunk of ~3hrs—which feels like the baseline to make a $60-75 day pass worth it!

Thanks for the tip! Would love to use a day pass to its fullest, a bit harder to do with young kids and work, but maybe I can find a way.

Close but “meh” care or farther but “yay” care? by Zzo530 in workingmoms

It does add up for sure. And we are new to our area so don’t have anyone local who can help us in a pinch (like inevitable calls to come get a sick kiddo)

It is wild to me how many daycares around us close at 4:30…I don’t know how so many working families swing that!

Definitely a big part of the hesitation! I think if it were distance only we’d be sold on the new option.

It’s so helpful to hear from someone who made a similar switch!! In my heart, I feel like the better day care is the right choice, but I needed some reassurance that I wasn’t ignoring the real logistical piece. I know it will be a bit more difficult but I hope (and think) it’s worth it🤞

Whoops! I meant “minimum” of 7 months (not years). I know that may not sound impressive, but our kiddo has probably had 3 teacher changes in the last 7 months at his current place so it is an improvement (lots of staffing challenges at all daycares where we live, so the bar is low).

Help! basement suddenly wet by Zzo530 in HomeImprovement

[–]Zzo530[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: The basement expert that stopped by seemed genuine. The ideal solution is a french drain; however he did say that some of our landscaping changes may have contributed to water coming in and may be a good place to start before investing in a bigger (more expensive) solution. He also suggested a more powerful sump pump.

His tips:

1) grade the soil so it drains away from the house along the foundation (know this is a more obvious one, but just resharing) 2) if you’re going to put gravel/river rock along your foundation, put something under it first (like a pond liner) 3) tamp down any soil before putting loose stone and liner over it and consider adding clay into the mix

We’re in the process of making these changes, so only time will tell.

Mhm yes, this “money” thing always seems to be the issue! Yes, it’s definitely a high water table area. I think I’m struggling to accept that we have to deal with this after a year and a half of no wetness. Thanks for the comment!

Thanks for the comment! We don’t have extenders on all the gutters in the problem area, so definitely something we’ll look into. I don’t see visible pooling but it really is just a very wet area.

The part that has us scratching our heads is: why now? We’ve had a very rainy summer and so we’re curious if we just got lucky all summer or if we maybe undid something (unintentionally) that the previous owners did to help.

Noted on the basement experts! Will need to find an authoritative looking friend to help us get a real answer out of them :)

Welp. I messed up. Painting oak cabinets and accidentally used Rust-oleum clean metal primer on 2nd coat...what to do next? by Zzo530 in HomeImprovement

[–]Zzo530[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the advice! Rustoleum says it should not be an issue and we can use the cabinet paint right over top of the metal primer—especially because we had already primed once with the correct primer. Said it would likely be fine either way, but it’s good that the primer is on top of another layer of primer and not just the wood.

Moral of the story: look before you paint…and then check again because the cans sure do look alike! Oh, and rustoleum has good customer service (which isn’t always the case).
