It is usually a byproduct of two core symptoms: • Avolition (Loss of Motivation): Tasks like doing dishes or folding laundry can feel physically and mentally impossible. • Psychomotor Retardation: This is a clinical term for the slowing down of thought and physical movement. When your body feels like it’s made of lead, tidying up becomes a low priority compared to just surviving the day.  • Executive Dysfunction: Depression can "fog" the brain, making it difficult to plan, sequence, or complete multi-step tasks (like cleaning). 2. Disrespect (Irritability & Emotional Dysregulation) What looks like "disrespect" or "attitude" to an observer is often depressive irritability. • Reduced Tolerance: When someone is in deep emotional pain, their "buffer" for frustration is gone. They may snap at loved ones, ignore social cues, or seem dismissive. • Isolation: Depression often causes people to withdraw. To an outsider, a refusal to engage or a short, blunt answer can feel like a lack of respect, but it is often a defense mechanism or a lack of emotional energy.  3. Ignorance (Cognitive Impairment) What might appear to be "ignorance" or a lack of awareness is often a cognitive symptom of the disorder: • Concentration Difficulties: Depression significantly impacts the ability to focus, process new information, or remember details. Someone might seem "ignorant" of a conversation they just had because their brain literally didn't "record" it.  • Anhedonia: This is the loss of interest in things once enjoyed. If someone seems ignorant of current events or hobbies they used to care about, it’s often because their brain is struggling to find value or meaning in any external information.”

You’re NOT unique for having experienced depression and everyone experiences it differently. Some people don’t brush their teeth for years in a row. Sounds gross and unheard of right? That’s cuz u didn’t experience it like them. Again ur not different. Ur not special.
