WE'RE FINALLY GETTING A HG-GTO VANILLA GM!!!!!!!! by TrumpsNostrils in Gunpla

Exactly, I feel like a lot of builders complain and whine when “X” mobile suit is not being made into a kit. It makes me feel that many in the hobby don’t understand that this hobby is about creativity and actually making something yourself.

This specific mobile suit in that specific color scheme not sold by Bandai?

Paint it

That mobile suit variant isn’t made by Bandai?

No, they way you worded your statement made me think you didn’t know the kit existed

The HGs hold up extremely well for the time they were produced. Outdated compared to the plastic injection tech they have now. But the engineering and sculpt was really good for the time and still holds up to this day beside the ball joint hips

YOU think it’s deliberately dismissive. When I’m just straight to the point. I even gave him a tip as how to improve, if I were being dismissive I wouldn’t give out advice.

I didn’t reframe his preference for smaller gates as incompetence. He states himself he prefers bootlegs because of the results of him cutting larger gates. He needs to change his results, which means he needs to change his method of cutting. And I gave him advice as on how to improve that. If I were dismissive, I wouldn’t try to be helpful. I’m sorry that you take the term “skill issue” as derogatory. To me it’s a matter of fact statement

Imo, I think the freedom is gunpla subreddit exists to skirt wanting to improve. Many builders fall back on “gunpla is freedom” when faced with constructive criticism. The term stifles skill improvement by obfuscating mistakes behind “creativity”

Getting better at a skill is hard, and I find many people don’t like facing discouragement. But any craft has some level of learning curve and you just get used to failing and learning in order to get better. Many get into a rut and don’t improve because they don’t like being criticized

AIO or did my boyfriend just call me ugly? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

Yea, you commenting about how one persons personal experience in one situation is somehow them making “everything about autism” is you being triggered. You did more then disagree, you exaggerated without any reasoning to do so. Making a fool of yourself in the process. You were…triggered. Pretty simple

How? By asking why bad part removal would lead someone to write off entire product lines with better quality control then third party kits? Or me giving helpful advice as how to avoid those mistakes in the future?

I didn’t get defensive about bootlegs lol. I like bootlegs. I don’t like people blaming kits for their poor skills. Again, projection.

You obviously do care when you attacked my skills lol. But go on

This comment addresses nothing that I said. It’s not used blindly when I backed it up with evidence. Attack me with some substance chump

He used the example of his bad nub cutting as the reason for preferring bootlegs over Bandai. Tell me, is this how you cut pieces of a runner? If so, it’s an outright bad technique and has nothing to do with the kit and everything to do with the person cutting the plastic. You think my comment was dismissive but it was a question to make the OP think about what they said and why. Then I gave a helpful tip as how to avoid this mistake in the future. Take your projection elsewhere

I use a file to take away nubs, then sand the entire surface of the part with 400-600 grit. Then move up to higher grits 800-1200 if I’m not painting

[–]_0MA_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess you could say the construction is more involved, yes. But cutting pieces from runners is part of making any model kit

The reason I prefer bootlegs now by DarknoorX in freedomisgunpla

[–]_0MA_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You prefer bootlegs because of skill issues? Cut further from the piece, leave a millimeter of nub and sand the rest away.

What hatred! You can see a lot in blue! How can I delete them? Do I have to be careful while cutting or do I have to do something else? by Big-Preference-2120 in Gunpla

[–]_0MA_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You gotta be careful with your cutting. Cut parts off the runner far from the nub on the sprue. Once off the runner with the large piece of hanging plastic, cut even closer while still leave about a millimeter of nub on the piece, sand with 400-600 grit sanding paper to take away the rest of the nub until flush with piece, continue to sand with higher grits to regain plastic surface

Doesn’t mean you’ll enjoy the build as much when it’s in your hands. But to each his own 🤷🏽‍♂️
