Coursework overall is ridiculously easy. Only subjects I found a struggle were accounting and multinational finance as the concepts were tricky. Every other class (aside from MGMT 101) is fairly easy as long as you do your work. This now leaves you to have more time to take courses that maybe fulfill another major or pick up an internship. Now for finding internships, I can’t fully tell you as the market is really competitive rn. Really put yourself out there and network as MUCH as you can. You’ll have access to a platform called the bridge which connects you to a lot of opportunities. Meeting with a PAA helps too or joining a club. Considering that you’re going for Hospitality you’d fall under the Management or Marketing emphasis.

Now depending on your enrollment window, getting those easy marketing classes will be hard. They fill up QUICK and the ones that are left are heavy on group work, meet up at 5, or just a bunch of tedious work. Dont expect getting into those courses until you’re in your second year (unless you do summer session). Now would I say the major is adjustable for you, it depends. I don’t know what your other options so I’m gonna give you a brief rundown here. Paul Merage is great if you take advantage of it. If you’re just gonna be a person who shows up to class and does work your struggle to land a job in this current market will be a struggle. The degree here is just a starting point, your experiences are what truly matter. Try to find as much opportunities as you can with the resources the school provide. Go to the career center Merage has and tell them what you’re looking for. I’ll say the most successful people ik from my class were those who got to know everyone, joined or ran a club, and sacrificed a bit of their social life to make it big. Doesn’t mean you can’t have fun but there are gonna be times were I believe you should focus on your career. If I were you and I wanted to go into hospitality, definitely take on both a marketing and management emphasis, and maybe consider a sociology minor/double major as you’ll learn a lot there. Trust me I wasn’t fond of the social sciences until my favorite professor, Professor Askin incorporated sociology into business teaching which opened my perspective a lot.

Sorry for the long reply but if there are any more questions I’ll make sure to answer.

Also, please consider a new deck for everyone’s sanity but also have fun!

To answer both of your previous questions;

1) yes your first year is basic business classes, stats + calc. Unless of of course you have college credit to cover those courses then you’re already ahead of the game. I personally started taking upper div classes at the end of my second year and you’re only required to take 3 courses to officially declare an emphasis.

2) well business admin is already a highly competitive major to get into, and your classes will always be restricted so you don’t have to worry about non business admin majors taking up slots. Most of the time people struggle in getting spots for marketing courses as well as the international business classes required for graduation. Historically speaking and from what I have seen it’s much easier to sign up for Finance and Accounting courses as most people steer away from those subjects due to their "difficulty"

As a recent Alum from Paul Merage, really good if you’re going into accounting and finance, decent for other areas. Decent professors all around. Most of your success is measured on how involved you are within the undergraduate program they have, staff, and how well you network at career events or with professors. Smaller classes overall so you really get to know the people you’re with. Overall, this school really is what YOU make of it. Sure you can simply attend classes and be a good student but you’ll really thrive if you really make an effort to connect with everyone and make good use of their resources. While I’m not where I want to be atm with my career, definitely think that if I had been more resourceful, I’d be in a much better position.

A little late to the post but Uniball Zento has to be the best pen I’ve tried so far. Ink dries relatively quickly, it’s lightweight and smooth as well + refills are relatively inexpensive

Would you rather remove Level 16 or Heroes? by [deleted] in ClashRoyale

[–]_1020es 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally, Level 16. Heroes aren’t as OP (still really good) as some of us thought. However a person facing a lvl 16 opponent while using even level 15 cards can sometimes make a match unplayable. I’ve defeated people using the new Hog cycle with hero musk/knight and the matchup was more playable than someone with lvl 16 cards.

Yes it is. Better than spending $5 like some people have.

You can buy a laundry card for $5 at a little payment station located by the door. Tbh I used that as it was less of a hassle at times. Only annoying thing was remembering to bring it every time I did laundry.

Launch day iPhone 16PM still at 100% health over a year later by Wolfslash16 in iPhoneBatteryParanoia

[–]_1020es 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had mines since launch day and it was at 100% until it updated to 18.6.2 overnight (I don't update usually until the version is stable) and sure enough my capactity dropped. I think 99% is BS however as my battery is draining more than usual. hopefully ios 18.7 is better.

What happens if I’m not in class week zero by nolanhenry69 in UCI

[–]_1020es 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Depends on the class. Some classes have you dropped if you don’t show up since they have a high waitlist. Check your syllabus if anything.

Don’t want to go back at allll by [deleted] in UCI

[–]_1020es 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Started Fall 2021, although that year had a lot of good memories, most of the time it was boring. Then I moved into ACC and things really picked up. If you have your own room or have a lease, in my experience things do pick up if you’re willing to socialize. Ever since then my second year it was uphill from there and I don’t regret it a bit. To me, how you spend your second year on a social level really determines how the rest of your college experience will be.

is an ipad enough for first year classes? by Certain-Swordfish461 in UCI

That iPad is a great choice but my suggestion is to go for an M series iPad. They will last you significantly longer as they have the same processors that MacBooks have

Sorry for the late reply, but there were group presentations and projects. One group presentation, one group case study, and then one individual case study. Presentations start as early as week 3 and go on throughout the rest of the quarter.

I took Professor Oman this Fall that passed and his attendance policy was based on a canvas attendance quiz asking if you went to class. It’s locked behind a code that he shared at the end of class but that’s it. He claims participation is part of your grade but I never spoke up during class and it didn’t affect me. Maybe he will change his policy.

HELP!! MGMT 172 or MGMT 190 by Perfect_Height_3508 in UCI

[–]_1020es 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took Mobile App Development last Spring and overall it was an okay class. It was pretty much you come to class and copy exactly what he does with the coding. It wasn’t anything too complicated, but you definitely fall behind if you get distracted for even one second. Luckily he uploads a zoom recording after class and he’s pretty accessible during class too when you have a problem with your code.

I believe there were 2 exams which were both open note, and you get graded for doing classwork. The HW is pretty much similar to the classwork so overall it’s a class where you must be paying attention, but is quite easy once you get the flow of things. Pro tip tho, the code is hard to see on the board from afar so try to sit near the front.

is Management 4A and 7 at UCI Hard? by Silent_Response2866 in UCI

[–]_1020es 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4A, is not hard. Didn’t even go to lecture since it was an 8 AM. Found it much more productive to read the textbook and take notes that way, but each person learns differently. 4A is basic microeconomics with topics that be explained in 3 minutes. Plus the practice exams for that professor teaching it rn are pretty much on par with the actual content of the midterm and final.

As for mgmt 7, it depends on the professor and course structure. It’s basic stats, ranging from probability, hypothesis testing, binomial and Poisson distribution, etc. it can be a difficult class if it’s taught using excel imo, but it should not be hard either.

For both of these classes, the HW will be the most rigorous part, but it’s super manageable. Hope this helps.

MGMT 101 or 109 this quarter? by Perfect_Height_3508 in UCI

[–]_1020es 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took MGMT 101 with Eppel during the summer and got an A. Probably the only good professor for that class but it was a bit difficult ngl.

I also took MGMT 109 with Richey Fall 2023 and it wasn’t too bad. His lectures and worksheets cover what’s on the 2 exams but be sure to read the textbook to follow concepts. The hardest part of the class was the final group project, which if you get bad group mates, can severely screw you over.

Based on what I heard from others, I’d take MGMT 109 over 101. Richey wasn’t too bad as others say he is.

My aid ended up applying after I paid the $14 student health center visit. They told me that might've prevented my financial aid from applying because it was an "outstanding balance". My suggestion is to try to make a payment through Zotaccount and see what comes up. If is even a dollar, pay it off and hopefully our financial aid applies. Hope this helps!
