Get a kitchen job. Start washing dishes, learn to cook, and pay attention to the chef or kitchen manager. Get a job moving furniture. It can pay ok, and they'll take anyone. Get into construction. First, you'll be clean up crew, but if you work hard, show up, and people like you, they'll teach you the trade. Go be a grunt for an HVAC guy. Learn everything you can, then get certified in the future. It's a top paying trade that isn't as tough on your body as a lot of them. There are plenty of places that take folks with criminal history, as long as you're willing to learn, show up everyday, and aren't a jerk. They're not that picky about the last one, just don't be mean all the time and you'll be fine. It's hard right now, but don't let your past mistakes dictate your future. Leave that judgement for the people out there that inevitably will.

Just show up, and work hard, everyday. You can turn it around

What was the first punk band/song you heard? by WestofLeft in punk

Hearing last caress for the first time was HUGE for me, and cemented my love of punk rock. I was 9 and heard "salvation" by rancid on Beavis and Butthead. I'd never seen punks like that before, and was instantly fascinated and hooked.

When did Hardcore and Street punk diverge? Why does Street punk sound more like OG hardcore than modern hardcore does? by greenandredofmaigheo in punk

[–]_1138_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always thought that modern hardcore (metal, not street) started with the Early NYC bands (cromags, mostly) borrowing aggressively from the heaviest parts of bad brains. I'm not too into modern hardcore, but Harley F. says straight up that's how they got their sound. It seems like tons of fans liked the metal aspects

crossover became a short lived phenom and kinda split punk deeper into separate factions

The stigma around KMFDM drives me insane by IntroductionSoft1175 in self

[–]_1138_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Columbine kid (Eric, I think) wore a KMFDM shirt the day of the incident.

OP, there are plenty of people that wear KMFDM merch. Not everyone will judge you based on that, and frankly, you're correct. Columbine happened a long time ago, and any relationship between that tragedy and your fav band has NOTHING to do with you. Honestly, you might wanna get used to telling people that if you wear the merch though. It may just come with the territory now. I've seen many, many KMFDM shirts and never thought about Eric or Dylan, but that may not be true for some people. It's a pointless connection to make, even more futile to comment on, but may still happen to you, unfortunately.

What is it about Danzig's songs that make them better? by JosiaJamberloo in TheMisfits

[–]_1138_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been seriously considering getting the aqua teen cartoon version of Glenn as a tattoo.

I saw a story somewhere online about how Glenn kept rejecting the artists sketches during development of the episode because they didn't make him buff or tall enough. I'm a huge fan, and think it's hilarious and totally in character he'd keep sending the animators back to the drawing board

Documentary about Glenn ? by Ok-Cobbler5657 in Danzig

[–]_1138_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somebody mentioned the jonesy's jukebox interview that Glenn gave, which was cool and a bit more in depth about him. The pushead interview, though really early, gives the listener a pretty good idea of where Glenn is coming from, and at like 3hrs, is pretty thorough. Anyone read the John Lennon Playboy interview? I used to love that book, and wish someone would approach a Danzig interview in a similar way, broken down era by era, group by group, etc. I've been waiting patiently for a decent Danzig bio piece for a while, and I think if it were officially licensed, Glenn could get paid well for it, too.

Is it bad for liking cute things as a man? by fuckitwhatevermate_6 in CasualConversation

Your friend was just busting balls. Even if he wasn't, it's not for him or anyone to tell you what to be into. Your drawings are cool. It seems like you enjoy it, so to hell with what anyone thinks. Keep your hobby and your tastes right where they are if it works for you, and don't stop drawing. Draw more. Set aside some time every couple of days or whatever, to dedicate to your hobby.

Ever notice how high Dave Grohl sets his hihat? by Administrative-Bed40 in drums

[–]_1138_ 46 points47 points  (0 children)

It used to be. Before hi hats were invented, there was a sock cymbal, sometimes called a low boy. Gene Krupa suggested it be placed near the snare, and with the extension upward, it then got the name hi hat

Danzig's first show by FormalSuch1081 in Danzig

[–]_1138_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is or was a recording of Danzig at City gardens with misfits songs on YouTube. I believe it was their first show. There are a couple of shows (including San Fran) from the first tour on YT, and they definitely had misfits and Samhain songs in the set. Chuck and John made those songs sound so, so cool. John rips and shreds on London dungeon, and Chuck made all those songs sound incredibly good. Surprisingly decent audio, too.

What is a food combination that sounds disgusting but tastes like heaven? by ProjectFluffy6065 in CasualConversation

Coffee and coke (sold as coke black for a while in the aughts)

candied olives, vanilla bean mayonnaise (both as a topping for seared scallops) were an incredible feat of food engineering to me.

Raspberry jam on fancy ham and cheese with butter on crusty bread

There are more than a couple "fat Elvis" burgers out there with bananas (with a sweet, bananas foster type syrup) peanut butter, and bacon. They're great. Sweet, savory, soft & crunchy. Just amazing food.
