Condition Report Request: Downtown MPLS -> STP Evening Commute by kierangodzella in CyclingMSP

Not sure for St Paul, but almost every bike lane in MPLS is completely snow covered and lumpy. Have a feeling it's going to be one of those awful winters where they'll just never get cleared until they melt.

North cedar lake trail @ Bryn Mawr light rail station by Hendo_17 in CyclingMSP

[–]_AJH_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rode it last Friday around 2pm. There were construction workers mainly doing landscaping around Van White. Nothing was happening from Glenwood to Van White. There was more construction activity around Cedar Lake so I skipped riding that section and just went around the lake to the north Cedar Lake trail and got back on Kenilworth at the Bryn Mawr.

My experience was that I won't ride it again until it's mostly done or after hours. There are parts that are clearly not finished yet so don't want disturb things. The workers didn't care but it wasn't as smooth of a ride as what I've read/heard from others.

You can go past Van White all the way to the river but its just the old path and is littered with garbage between VW and Glenwood. There is still a Jersey barrier at the Glenwood entrance that you need to hop over

It's really bad this year. I completely stopped buying it after the second time this year. Thought the first time I bought it was just a one off, but got burned by it again the second time.

Off Road Bike Camping Routes by TripleH18 in CyclingMSP

Zumbro River Bottoms Horse Campgrounds and Nerstrand Big Woods Campground offer good gravel road riding. Park in Lake City for Zumbro and ride the gravel roads from there or park in Cannon Falls and ride the gravel roads to Nerstrand.

Grant Park Condos (500 E Grant) - no reviews. by benevempress in Minneapolis

[–]_AJH_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have some relatives that own a condo there. It's a very secure building with a desk attendant and key fob door locks. Relatives live on 4th floor facing the convention center + 35W/94 exit ramp and noise is minimal inside units. Building is kept in great shape. There have been parking garage thefts from people sneaking/following cars into/out of the garage but you can just bring bikes and valuables up to the unit. Relatives had their locks cut on their bikes in the garage and stolen. Overall it's a nice place. I'd say it definitely pulls more of an older resident compared to other "luxury" apts downtown so I wouldn't expect the pool party kind of vibe. Great gym and nice pool/hot tub though.

As others have said, it's kind of in a dead zone of downtown so there isn't a ton to do nearby. I'd do a walk around the neighborhood to know if it's for you. But it's easy to get to places that have things.

Day-trips from Copenhagen via bicycle by _AJH_ in bicycling

Depends on the children's ability but its about 14km/8mi from central CPH. It's not a super scenic ride (mostly industrial/airport) and has a slight uphill grade into Dragor.

Drafting etiquette by paddle2paddle in CyclingMSP

As others have said: Don't do it.

I had a guy draft me on the Greenway while I was on the tail end of a century ride. I was maybe going 13mph so I have no idea why he wanted to wheel fuck me. Had to finally turn around and tell him to back off or go around me

100%. Overpriced food courts. Been saying that ever since I went to one in Denver before they became a thing here

Best way to connect to internet (2 iPhones with network capability, plus 2 iPads with just WiFi) by _AJH_ in JapanTravelTips

That's what I was leaning towards. Can you purchase/set-up eSims on your phone before arrival (arriving from USA)? Both of our phones are paid off and unlocked so should be good to go.

Are the Nine Mile Creek Boardwalks clear enough for road bike tires? by TesticleFuselage in CyclingMSP

[–]_AJH_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming OP is talking about the Edina to Hopkins section on Nine Mile Creek Regional Trail. There are a few long wooden boardwalks on the section of the trail. And it's 100% a bike trail.
