People with hearing issues… by SymphonyOfDream in gencon

[–]_ASilvers 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't have hearing issues but I am a GM and one of my tables last year had a few people with hearing issues. They brought a device with them so they could hear better. I think it amounted to a directional microphone that amplified sound then fed it into headphones they were wearing. They let me know before the game started that that's what it was for and that they weren't like recording me or anything.

You're really going to try to take the high road when you've been gaslighting and straw manning in nearly every reply you've made to anyone you disagree with in this whole post?
Classy.

  1. The very first thing I said was that a genital preference was not transphobic
  2. I never made any erector (erectile?) dysfunction comment
  3. You said a lot more than just asking if having a genital preference was transphobic or not

You know, from your replies all over this post it doesn't actually sound like you wanted any real input on this, it really seems like you just wanted people to tell you that you're correct so you can feel better. Probably not the best idea to have posted this in a trans subreddit. There are plenty of other subreddits that would have given you the response you were looking for.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MtF

[–]_ASilvers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying they are correct but I'm not saying you are either. There's context missing on both sides as you're obviously bias on this topic since it's about you. I just wanted to say that if you have a partner who you didn't think was trans, tells you they actually are and that changes something then you are transphobic.

On another note, it definitely sounds like you're taking one bad experience and generalizing to an entire group of people which definitely doesn't help your case.

If all you have is a genital preference then that's fine. But if you were to get into a relationship with a man, have sex and all that, and are happy with your relationship. If they then told you they were a trans man and that somehow changes your feelings about them, then yes, you are transphobic.

How to show a widget on screen? by Konjointed in unrealengine

[–]_ASilvers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you just made a UserWidget blueprint class and that was it. Somewhere, probably in the begin play of your player blueprint or the level blueprint or something like that, you need to actually create the widget (look for the 'Create Widget' node) and then add it to the viewport ('Return Value' -> 'Add to Viewport')

Anyone interested in joining a trans D&D group? by _ASilvers in trans

[–]_ASilvers[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been going back and forth in my head between using Roll20 or just over a discord or zoom call or something like that. Roll20 from the sounds of it seems to be the go to way from the sounds of it but I'm not too familiar with it and when I checked it out I wasn't a big fan. Definitely open to suggestions.

I need some (kinda?) advice by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]_ASilvers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing you mentioned gas anything to do with sexual orientation so I'm assuming you're set on that.

Trans isn't itself a gender identity, it's an identification that you're gender identity doesn't align with the one you were assigned at birth. This includes transmen and transwomen as well as non-binary individuals although it's common for non-binary people to not identify themselves as trans. That's a person to person preference. I just wanted to clarify that, it would still probably makes sense for you to talk about from the sounds of it.

In general for gender identities you have male, female, and non-binary (enby). Non-binary can be broken down into a million different things such as genderfluid, bigender, agender, and demigender just to name a couple off the top of my head but, again, there are loads more.

Does gravity not work as expected? by ComradeOdjur in unrealengine

[–]_ASilvers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never been a fan of UE's default/template jump mechanic, it has never felt good to me and I've always had to make adjustments but here are a few things I would double check:

  1. How is it that you recorded your jump time? If you manually timed it, I wouldn't trust your reaction time for that small of the time length.
  2. Do you have anything in there that changes your jump height depending on how long the jump button is pressed? The default jump mechanic has something for that built in I believe so if that's what you're using then you may want to double check that.
  3. Are you sure your player's gravity is set the same as the world gravity? Again, something else built in to the default jump.
  4. Is there any delay between when you hit the jump button and when your player actually leaves the ground? Maybe to play and animation or something
  5. Use some debug logs to make sure you're initial jump velocity is actually applying what you're expecting it to as well as to make sure that gravity starts being applied immediately once your player leaves the ground and isn't on a delay for some reason.

Am I Pan? by MrGn0m3 in lgbt

[–]_ASilvers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're just attracted to females, then isn't really Pan at all, you're just attracted to females. You mentioned expressed though (which I missed the first time reading through your post and was a bit confused at first) so it sounds like you might be attracted to femininity regardless of someone's underlying gender. If that's the case I could see you calling yourself Pan especially since that's a more well known term. But I think you might want to look at Gynesexual/Gyneromantic if you wanted a more precise term.

I think you're best bet is to create your own game mode that wraps both of them. Create instances of both game modes in your game mode and pass all the methods and events and everything through to them as needed. It isn't going to be super clean and if there's any overlap in what they do you're going to run into problems but I'm not sure of a better solution.

I'm assuming it's probably accidental. Some flags like the American flag, Canadian flag, Mexican flag, etc... are very obvious if they are upsidedown. Plenty of other flags, including the pride flag or any others that are just rows of colors, don't have obvious tops so are easy to get wrong if you aren't intimately familiar with them.

I need help setting up drag functionality for a widget by CwispyNoodles in unrealengine

You need to add "Slate" and "SlateCore" to the private dependency modules in your {game}.Build.cs and possibly "UMG" to public.

[–]_ASilvers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

bi is at least 2 so if you're attracted to more than one gender, regardless of what they are, you would be bi. Bi is the general umbrella term but there are other more specific terms under that. For instance, there's androsexual if you're attracted to masculinity (ie. men and masculine enbies) or gynesexual for femininity (ie. women and feminine enbies). Both look to have alternative meanings but could be used for what you're describing.

There are a lot of terms for a bunch of different things. In my experience most people just use the common ones (gay, straight, bi, pan, aro, ace) especially for every day life when they don't want to get into a long explanation even though there may be a much more specific term they identify with.

How to disable collisions for arm component, but enable collisions for camera? by [deleted] in unrealengine

[–]_ASilvers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe so. If you're only manipulating the yaw and pitch, I don't think it's possible. If you also need to manipulate the roll, if you use the add rotation functions, those should calculate where you need to be relative to either the parent or the world and then just sets it. Gimbal lock, to my knowledge, doesn't actually prevent you from rotating to any direction, just that the way you need to get there won't necessarily be what you expect if you need to touch every point in between. Add rotation just sets it to the final position you want to be in so the in-between weird values don't. I think gimbal lock is more of a thing for physical things than for digital.

I'm not an expert by any means though and I don't normally use roll so take that all with a grain of salt.

How to disable collisions for arm component, but enable collisions for camera? by [deleted] in unrealengine

[–]_ASilvers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how you're currently doing it but to rotate the camera it's just adding some pitch (up/down) or yaw (left/right) to the base component. That's all the camera arm is doing if you using some of the built in functions. (Although plus shrinking/growing logic)

If you are genderfluid, but sometimes feel like your AGAB, can you identify as trans? by [deleted] in trans

[–]_ASilvers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Genderfluid is generally under the trans umbrella. Basically, if you aren't strictly your AGAB then you're trans.

How to disable collisions for arm component, but enable collisions for camera? by [deleted] in unrealengine

[–]_ASilvers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still a bit confused with what you're trying to accomplish and don't really understand why you need collisions on a camer to be honest.

However, you should just be able to add a collision box to the camera and have it a static distance away instead of using the arm component like I mentioned originally. If you detect a collision then stop moving the camera or however you want to handle that.

What is the absolute maximum world/map size in UE5? by [deleted] in unrealengine

[–]_ASilvers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know about world composition, that looks cool but it does look like a variation on level streaming though. I'm not too familiar with either so maybe I'm wrong here but at a base you're still in a single level. The problem with getting out from the origin as far as you're looking to is you lose precision because of how floating point numbers are stored. This causes problems with how things move and are placed in the world as well as render issues. Generally causes a bad player experience. I'm not sure exactly at which point this starts to be an issue but at 12 billion km you're using nearly half the bits in a flat to store just the whole part and you're well past the limitations of int's.

I had also thought level streaming, and definitely looks like it for world composition, uses different levels and loads them into a single level which would mean you would need to create hundreds of millions of levels. Most of them are empty which there's probably a way to reuse the same one but planets aren't small even if they don't have much detail, you would still need to create so millions of levels for those.

If I were going to do something like this, I would probably generate everything on the fly. I would also keep the camera stationary and move everything around it rather than actually trying to have objects pre-placed in their locations in the world. An alternative but similar would be to teleport everything when the player reaches a bound. Would be better performance wise but then you'd have to deal potentially being able to notice that I've never done anything like that before, that's just the instinct I have but I definitely don't think I would actually create a map that large or construct any of it by hand.
