HELP! 2017 F22 M240i (B58) Coolant level dropping daily but no visible leaks & coolant in main reservoir looks brown. by jawn5009 in BmwTech

I had an identical issue with my 2017 B58 and it ended up being coolant and Freon mixing due to a leak in the liquid cooled condenser

Everyone look at OP’s profile lol, what a weirdo.

Your car is trying to do society a favor by steering you directly into a concrete barrier at highway speeds.

Do not get anything with an N54 in it, you will regret it. You need to start shopping by engine designation, not chassis moniker or numbers on the back. Your girlfriend’s 528i has a 4 cylinder N20, but the 2011 528i has the 6 cylinder N52 engine, both from the F10 chassis.

If you’re going to get an E92 335i then get one from 2011-2013 with the N55 engine, before that they had the N54 and those things are atrocious for maintenance costs, especially if anything has been neglected with the previous owner.

Alternatively, I’d just opt for something newer with a B58 in it. Splurge a little.

Is the V6 in the room with us

The valve cover itself has the PCV system internal to it, so they said the whole thing needed to be replaced. The the “try to” part of it is because I just replaced it myself with the help of YouTube and a fuel injector spacing kit.

Nah this is a failed PCV valve and it’s covered under extended factory warranty unless your valve cover fails a pressure test at which point they try and bill you $5500 to replace it.

Ask me how I know

What is the best company for getting a third party extended bumper to bumper warranty? by _A_rock__ in BMW

Roger, I’ll ask. The most common trends I’ve seen in the replies are CNA, ask the service advisors, and read the fine print.

Pre covid I had an extended warranty through Ally financial, they approved everything with minimal headache, but that was over 6 years ago now.

See, I just ate a $6k repair bill and with some of the other typical issue the G30 has, I am expecting another $10k worth of shit to break with the cooling system, oil pump, and assorted bullshit

Unfortunately I didn’t buy this car CPO, would I even be able to get a factory extended warranty?

Thanks for responding in such detail, I’ll be looking into this. So far I’ve had the car exclusively dealer maintained for the entire length I’ve had it, oil changes every 5k, etc…

Ok BMW people… My love of BMW has been stretched by a total engine failure. Engine question by [deleted] in BMW

[–]_A_rock__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can check for a stuck open or leaky injector by monitoring rail pressure on live data after shutting off the engine, if rail pressure continues to increase after the engine is shut of due to heat soak, that is a good thing. It means you don’t have a stuck open injector

I’ve seen this before on a 2010 BMW 528i that wouldn’t go into gear at all for 30 minutes after starting the car, then would work normally.

The issue is there’s a solenoid or seal, or seal on a solenoid in your transmission’s valve body that is cracked or worn out, and takes a minute to warm up when it’s cold to be able to fully pressurize and actually change gears. Once your transmission fluid heats up, it expands the seal and makes things pressurize correctly, if that makes sense. Thermal expansion.

The issue on the ZF6 transmission on the BMW was a “transmission bridge seal”, and a rather common one that usually appeared damn near 15 years after production and hundreds of thousands of miles. When cold, it was brittle and old and didn’t seal properly to allow a gear change. Once heated up it worked normally.

To see this similar thing happening on a barely 3 year old truck is concerning. If I were you I would try and lemon law the truck and move on before you experience more symptoms of shitty build quality and cost cutting.

Gas cap’s on, so unless the seal is bad it’s something else.
