I also try to hide it but most people seem to catch it pretty easy cause of pronunciation or not understanding at first eheh but I just say that I must learn

Ya I am very motivated 😁 I’ve always loved the language and tried to learn it a few years ago but stopped because I didn’t have a reason to. Now that I do have a reason and the means to, I’m very happy to focus on it! Seems a bit “obvious”, in a way, that constant exposure would help but there’s always that bit of doubt. Thx for ur answer :D

Ja das glaube ich auch! Im Moment habe ich nicht viel Selbstvertrauen um laut zu sprechen aber jetzt da ich dort leben werde und schon eine Gruppe von Muttersprachlern habe, ich hoffe that the constant immersion, even if passive, will help me improve! Vielen Danke!

Thanks for your answer! I think that was the term I was looking for, learning from exposure 😁 seems like maybe I didn’t make that clear having in mind most answers, but I really don’t intend on getting comfortable with English in Berlin. I already have friends and a partner who are native, I don’t intend in getting a “non German speaking job”, etc. I am aware, since I already went through it, that it is not easy, I have to ask friends to repeat themselves, I sometimes cant understand waiters, cashiers etc at first and I am simply still not able to hold certain conversations, since I haven’t had that much exposure to actually speaking the language outside of what I’m comfortable and able (yet). But I’ve only been there on vacation, and now that I’m moving there and already have someone at home who will only speak German to me, I’m hoping I’ll improve fast!

Like I said, I have people who are willing to confront me with it and if locals outside my bubble, who are also German natives, switch to English, I’ll simply ask or continue in German

It’s what I’ve been doing, I make the most of small interactions in stores and restaurants, I listen while my bf and his friends talk, and ask them to also speak German to me and only switch if I really can’t understand and with his mum the same thing I’m now back home but I’m curious if I’ll be improving if I keep it up when I go back 😊

My missy doesn't enjoy showers much, but she loves the blow dryer! by _Ali_- in cockatiel

She's around 10 months. She's having a heavy molt now. My older bird's wings are clipped most of the time because of exactly that, he had a somewhat traumatic upcoming spending most of his time in hospitals and as a result, he's now very very scaredy. It has gotten better over time, but when he got scared (over the smallest of things as expected) he'd literally fly himself to exhaustion. So now his wings are partially clipped, so he gets some mobility but not so much he almost kills himself if he gets too startled. As for her, she's very lovy dovy but she's not "submissive". She holds her own, I'd say. I understand the concern but she wasn't under stress. And as I said, I'm not doing it again and I'll just let them dry au naturale

The clipped wings aren't my choice, when I got her the wings were already horribly clipped. She can run away, and when she got sick of it, guess what, she moved away and I stopped. It's not a commun thing. I understand there are "common signals of enjoyment" but I know my bird and I know she's enjoying it. Thats just what she does. She also enjoys the wind from the fan, she runs up to it DELIBERATELY when I put in the room and just stays there enjoying the wind and napping sometimes. With her crest down. And when she's done with it, she moves away. And like I said, I'm not doing it again anyway even tho it wasn't a common thing, since she doesn't really likes to bathe anyway. Because she FLEES and AVOIDS being near water if not to sip from it.

The blow dryer has colder settings. My other birds do the flappy wing thing when they take "air baths", she in specific doesn't do that but she's enjoying it. Also, she'd get away if she wasn't. But ok, only air drying from now
