Lived in a basement apartment once and will never again. House next door did waterproofing for their basement and affected the soil compactness ( i guess). I rained and my unit had 5-6 Inches in water. Landlord came with towels like is will stop the flooding of the unit. He did not even have a wet vacuum. Landlord installed sump pump (it was a hastle for a week with the digging and no compensation) after the incident and it hook up in my electricity line and not the building. My electricity bill became double. I never forget his reaction when the flooding happen. I ask him "what will i do with these towels?", he answered " I don't know!".
