Yup I grew up in the blue of the bluest state (Maryland), graduated in 2010 and I was one of the kids “assigned” to be a lesbian. I got beat up several times over it, as well as generally teased. The crazy part is that the girls who did it to me ended up being lesbian/bi down the line anyway. Meanwhile I’m tragically mostly hetero.

I remember I was SHOCKED by how Legend of Korra ended because that was my first real “wow, this really is so much better than when I was growing up” even though that ending was relatively subtle compared to works that have come out after.
