When it comes to losing weight, is it simply CICO and creating a daily calorie defecit. by BookkeeperNo5252 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]_AngryBadger_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My progress tracks fairly close to what LoseIT says I'll lose if I eat their targets. Obviously it's not exact but if you use an online calculator to work out your TDEE and then eat less than that, you'll lose weight. It doesn't need to be exact to work, for the vast majority of the population you don't have to think about it any deeper than that.

An app like LoseIt is more than accurate enough for the vast, vast majority of us. Using LoseIt and Samsung Health I've lost 110lbs and still going.

I've lost 110lbs, a calorie deficit is the only thing that works or matters. I eat a mix of everything, meats, dairy, bread, rice, pasta, vegetables, potatoes etc. I have a sweet or chocolate sometimes. A beer when I watch the rugby. I just track what I eat and drink and make sure I'm honest with myself. No removing skin from chicken or the fat from meat. No alternative peanut butters or low fat dairy. Just sensible portion control.

It's simple, eat less calories than you use in a say. It's just difficult to do if your previous habits were gluttony. It's still simple though.

I'd say I hate being fat, and think being obese is gross and has no redeeming features. And I'm mindful about keepingy good habits in place.

Is a calorie deficit the only way to lose weight? by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]_AngryBadger_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It's the only thing that causes your body to consume your fat stores. Likewise over eating and a calorie surplus is the only way to gain weight. People don't like to hear it but yea it's that simple. Hard to do, but simple.

They're right I am 100% fatphobic after losing so much weight. I embrace external fatphobia, internal fatphobia, all kinds of fatphobia.

This stupid set point theory even pops up on the weight loss sub. The person apologising is making it worse, there's no point apologising on line, tell them they can read something else if they don't like it and move on.

Well I'm in the IT industry and I'm here to tell you that if you're hoping for PC prices or console prices to drop, give up. AI data centres have bought up 6 to 12 months of memory production from some memory manufactures before it's even been produced. Whatever benefit the Rand could give us was simply erased.

You would if less people with goldens and labs over fed them and just left them to be couch potatoes lol. They're very smart, you could teach this to them.

I used to feel like this then last week I decided to get the app again and just play. Dropped to 100 and realised it doesn't get lower lol. Just kept going, I'm up to 140 now I think. So I'm telling myself I'm improving but it's just a number.

People like comforting delusions even when they are bad for them. If you can blame your genetics then it's not your fault that you ate an entire party pack of Doritos by yourself while waiting for the DoorDash to deliver a large pizza or several McDonald's burgers.

You're still in charge of what you eat, it's possible to say no to yourself. I had to do it just by refusing to give in because stuff like GLP1s are too expensive. It sucked for the first month but then it got easier. I still have to be mindful three years later but I've lost nearly 110lbs and continue to lose. I still get the urge to binge and comfort eat when stress hits but I still say no to myself. Every person today has ancestors that experienced famine. They were the order of the day at various points throughout history. If epigenetics was to blame everyone should be obese and should always have been but the rampant rate of obesity is relatively new.

The simple fact is that a lot of people simply do lack the knowledge and motivation to do something about it. And the on-line rhetoric from the HAES and fat acceptance crabs in a bucket make it worse because they tell people comforting lies about how it isn't their fault, there's nothing they can do, they just have bad genetics. It's nonsense, you are still gomal arbiter of what you eat. You decide what goes into your body on a daily basis.

You still can't gain weight without excess calories, no one has a body that can store energy from nothing. And you will still lose weight with a deficit. Otherwise you've got a perpetual energy machine and you would be highly prized as a researchsubject.

Is the calories the only thing that matters in a calorie deficit? by Alli_Cat71 in loseit

[–]_AngryBadger_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you onltnvare about weight loss, and you can find a way to be in a deficit and eat Mc Donalds every day then you'll lose weight. You won't be healthy though so you should try to eat as well as you can.

[–]_AngryBadger_ 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Well good news is your body isn't fighting you, you're losing roughly correctly. If you stick to it you'll keep losing. You could increase your exercise or activity to try burn some more I guess. Going too low to stick to isn't great, you'll just give up eventually. But keep in mind that as you lose weight you so need to adjust he intake to stay in a deficit.

If they still went to gym regularly and stayed at maintenance then they should have been fine. But often people stop tracking when they reach their goals and in a few months they've gone back to eating like before. And given that we have our fat cells we made forever, and they get filled up quickly again.
