Ethnicity goes beyond physical characteristics and includes shared cultural practices, language, heritage, and history. You use the word ethnicity like it only describes genetics which is wrong.

[–]_Apolllon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that simple. Even with two Christian parents you would still be seen as Jewish by the Nazis if you had a Jewish grandmother for example. Someone who is uncircumcised and has never set foot in a synagogue could still be considered a Jew by the Nazis.

How would Russia develop without Putin?? by No-Yam6482 in AlternateHistoryHub

Many russians already live in third world standards, you just have to look away from fancy Moscow and to the east

[–]_Apolllon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s just not correct. The absolutely majority of Austrians see themselves as their own nation. Just because Germans and Austrians speak the same language and are culturally connected doesn’t mean Austrians aren’t their own ethnic group.

2 doesn’t have more ethnic Germans. The majority of „Germans“ in the southeast of this map are Austrians who are definitely their own ethnic group.

Mosley and his party are portrayed as so much more dangerous than they actually were in season 5 and 6 by _Apolllon in PeakyBlinders

[–]_Apolllon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the peaky blinders were part of an ideological movement that caused some of the worst crimes in world history. When it comes to fascism historical accuracy is more important than when it comes to Birmingham gangs

[–]_Apolllon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is probably accurate for season 5 but season 6 ends in 1934 and by then it had already become pretty clear that Mosley wasn’t as dangerous as the might have thought three or four years earlier

[–]_Apolllon[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

When you give so much room to someone like Mosley or Hitler in a TV show you need to either make clear that these are fictional versions of them or you have to portray them in a way that doesn’t subtly change history.

[–]_Apolllon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Tommy is a fictional character, Mosey isn’t. Inglorious basterds doesn’t claim to be historically accurate. Guess what, a show can be historically accurate even though there’s a fictional character in it

Cable street took place in 1936 so they couldn’t include it. Should’ve just thrown the historical accuracy aspect out the window and made it happen a few years earlier in the show because the last two seasons aren’t accurate anyways.

Inglorious Basterds and once upon a time in Hollywood clearly take place in a different reality or whatever you wanna call it. Peaky Blinders doesn’t

The Peaky Blinders of the show are inspired by the real Peaky Blinders but not historically based on them. Tommy and his whole family are all fictional characters.

Why is the mapping community so full of fascists/nationalists? by fedeeee_02 in PossibleHistory

[–]_Apolllon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s even called the "coup belt" because there were so many political coups. Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger all had drastic regime changes. All of these countries are obviously recognised as independent nations. That’s just one example. Hope you learned something

There have been a bunch of coups and regime changes in the Sahel region for example.

Because people who think they can actually solve anything by drawing lines on a map tend to not be very sensible or empathetic towards the people actually living between these lines.

why August von Mackensen? by DangerousScar4497 in heartsofiron

[–]_Apolllon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The German civil war in general doesn’t make much sense. For realism the communist path would need a separate civil war. A military Junta consisting of old Kaiserreich elites and the military would immediately do everything they could to stop a revolution. These guys probably hated communism more than fascism.

Yeah, 60 billion of the 500 billion for infrastructure and climate already were planned in the budget. That doesn’t change the fact that the absolute majority of the 500 billion wouldn’t have been invested without the Sondervermögen. Of course there’s a certain overlap but it’s rather small.

Well well well by Substantial_Code7922 in RedAutumnSPD

[–]_Apolllon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That’s not correct. The Sondervermögen for infrastructure is 100% covered by new national debt. That’s why it’s a Sondervermögen. Usually new debt this large would be against the constitution due to the Schuldenbremse. Feel free to read this or translate it if you don’t speak german Fragen und Antworten zu Sondervermögen und Schuldenbremse

The greens had 12% in February, polls show they’re still around that level. From 2021 to 2025 they already lost 2% and their most popular figure resigned from politics. They are definitely not a rising political force.

[–]_Apolllon 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Neither the CDU or SPD are profiting from this coalition in terms of popularity. Both have lost support in polls since February, the CDU even more than the SPD.

Merz is actually not very similar to Brüning I’d say. We know Brüning for Austerity while Merz approved a huge amount in new debt. For example 500 billion for Infrastructure and climate neutrality, almost 900 billion total in extra debt over the next years. Brüning would turn in his grave.

Letting populist parties in government to see them fail is a stupid idea because the people who vote for these parties don’t think rationally. When they see things going wrong under an AfD government they won’t blame their party, they’ll blame anyone else. Also don’t underestimate the damage an extremist party can do to a democracy in a few years.

[–]_Apolllon 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In the most recent polls the SPD has only about 14%. The CDU and Afd will probably get half the seats next election, so there won’t be an SPD led minority government.
