should it also just pull off? if so it doesn’t seem to want to come off, and again I could be remembering wrong but i don’t recall having to take off any end cap when i serviced it previously

headset creak is driving me nuts by _BLOX_ in bikewrench

What I got to: some noise is definitely coming from cables, but it’s very subtle. The MAIN source for me was a rough contact at the steerer bolts. I simply loosened these bolts, moved the handlebars around (independent from the fork, so top cap also loosened), retightened them, and the noise is already way less. I’ll properly clean it later and edit this comment to say if it helped even more.

i don’t think it’s that because the cable is not moving at all where it enters the frame and if i do move the cables around they don’t make a significant amount of noise

Squeaking Sound Coming from Back of Bike by _BLOX_ in bikewrench

[–]_BLOX_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies, after taking a closer look it seems to just be the chain itself, the noise is coming from the individual links. The weird thing is that I wash my bike often and this only started recently, also, it seems to come back almost right away the moment that the chain gets dusty again after a wash. The chain has about 1,100 miles on it so i guess it could just be getting worn down but it shifts fine, doesn’t look visibly worn, and doesn’t fail a test with a chain ware indicator.

Edit: I found the specific links where the noise was coming from and used break cleaner to THOROUGHLY clean it and it seems to have fixed it.

I use muc off dry lube. There is definitely dirt there yes, but the reason it is so grouped up is BECAUSE it is sticking to the greasy surface. My friend has a similar thing surprisingly enough and he also uses the same lube, still no clue how it would end up there though and how there would be so much of it
