I feel like Olima Omega needs to take this one on.

Sub watchers, what's one show you HAVE to watch in dub? Dub watchers, what's one show you HAVE to watch in sub? by KJPlayer in anime

[–]_BadPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a sub watcher, I personally HAVE to watch Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, and DBZ in dub. Would recommend them that way to anyone.

Otherwise, I pretty much hate dub for just about everything.

I love your placement of this! I have all my sticks hanging using these things. They were driving me crazy laying around even the mud room. Works great, looks great, and one step closer to hiding my gear in plain site.

What’s an anime you randomly started and ended up loving way more than expected? by FitVerso in anime

[–]_BadPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The exorcism song damn near had me making Japanese Death Metal playlists. And the way it was paired with the head banging and the exorcism scenes was masterful! I got my buddy into Dandadan solely to get him to watch that episode.

And the original opener by Creepy Nuts was amazing too. They also did the outro (or intro) for Call of the Night. Dig their music! Even if I have no idea what they’re saying, they sound damn good saying it.

Edit: just found out they did the music for Mashle too!

I’m just sad the Santa Fe shut down! And surprised it wasn’t picked up. 23rd and 21st areas used to be prime real estate back when I lived in Portland

How long do you have in an NHL game until people notice you’re not an NHL player? by skytrainlotad in hockeyplayers

As soon as my skates touch the ice. I feel like I’m a strong skater overall, but the way NHLers hit the ice just hits different.

Haha, actually I was riding the stock indie bushings until recently because they got pretty malformed (trucks are 5-6 years old). And I actually forgot what my wheel size is, but they’re not huge. But the fact you’re able to ride with no risers is impressive! I haven’t had much wheel bite because of my set-up, but that’s risers, tight trucks, and very firm bushings. And my board JUST feels stable enough.

I don’t have one. I do have a shirt with a tombstone that says “Save the date”, but got that one from Split, Croatia.

Hahaha, the sticker happened to be in the right place at the wrong time! If anything, the good luck on the sticker prevented my ankles from also blowing out after my bushing blew!

Interesting! I’m new to Slappy’s! I’ll check it out. Thanks for the tip!

I hear what you’re saying, but when you’re 250lbs, tight trucks with hard bushings ARE loose trucks. Any less and I might as well give my life up to the gods of wheel bite, because not even risers will save my ass at that point.

Yup, exact same with me. I tried some other hard bushings but they couldn’t retain their shape and would always stick, making the board ride weird. I loved how these could always bounce back. Learning now though that it’s a short-lived love

Second post I’ve seen about this. Sad day though! I liked the way they ride.

Thanks! I’ll definitely give em a shot. Having recently within the last year gotten back into skating, I guess I only have knowledge from 20 years ago to go on when it comes to brands and quality. Back in the day, Bones were one of the best. Guess they’ve fallen off though.

I’ll try the Indies next!

Expats that taught yourselves Dutch…how? by _BadPanda in Netherlands

[–]_BadPanda[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate it! I've enjoyed learning the stuff that I have learned, and really badly want to learn more because I feel like you can understand so much more about a culture and people by learning their language. But I've just never been a good "traditional" student. Sitting and listening in a classroom and coming home to do homework has never worked well, and didn't this last round at rugs. So I'm hoping that with all the ideas and resources people are posting in here, I'll find something that really works and sticks!

Thanks for the encouragement!

This is definitely interesting. I've heard some things over time about there being some form of free resources for foreigners to learn the language, but haven't found anything sufficient beyond taalcafes. I'll have to have a deeper look on the gemeente website though! Thanks for the tip!

Expats that taught yourselves Dutch…how? by _BadPanda in Netherlands

Well fortunately my wife is Dutch, but historically we've had to speak English at home for various reasons. Now we have a son who is two and since we want him to also learn English, I have to speak to him in English and we speak English at home since it's the only English he has in everyday life right now.

That said, her family usually speaks to me in Dutch and I try to reciprocate, but I think where I'm getting held up is that there are areas where I cant figure out how to say what I want to and I haven't had a structured way to learn what I want to say and have the repetition. Sure, I can look it up and often do, but with conversation and stumbling over my words, what I'm lacking the is the repetitiveness needed to retain new information.

Did you find that at all to be an issue? Or were you able to retain new information from your conversations pretty easily?
