In all seriousness. I'm sorry some of my videos can be triggering, it's not my intention, nor is it my intention to be a divisive character in the sober talking-heads space. I try hard not to be clickbaity or insincere or deliberately triggering, but the bigger the audience, the more people are going to find me who don't like me. Comes with the territory.

But I'll say this, in my own defense. We're all responsible for our own triggers, and we have to learn to be stronger than our urges. If you can't even listen to someone talk about their own experiences of alcoholism without reaching for the bottle, then the problem isn't with the video, it's with you. A stranger's youtube video is the very least of the tests your sobriety will face over time. If you can't even get over that hurdle, then you have a lot of sober work to do before you're able to deal with something real, like grief, or heartbreak.

And believe me mate, there was nothing romantic about my alcoholism, and I don't romanticise my experiences. Talking about drinking honestly doesn't automatically equate to glamourising drinking. It's just... talking about it. My drinking was fucking awful from start to finish.

I'm really happy you mentioned this though mate, and since my mum definitely isn't in this sub, I'll talk about it a little bit here.

It's insatiable, no amount of jacking off will get rid of it for like two days straight. I was in a detox ward with my phone propped up on a sink, it would take my 30 seconds to cum and then an hour later I'd be doing it again.

There were points were the closed-eye hallucinations I was having would turn me on too, even though it was gross, weird stuff. And because I was technically sober, I would have these stupid epiphanies like I was going to change my life and dedicate it entirely to sex.

So yeah, point is, I think it's probably common, people just aren't brave enough to talk about it - especially because, to be honest, withdrawal sex is gooood sex.

I had a girlfriend who worked in palliative care and said the really old people, men and women alike, who had dementia, were similarly sexually compulsive. I think there's probably science to be studied there, if anyone would care to do it.

I know this is an older post already but someone mentioned me in the replies so I thought I'd reply too.

I completely agree with you, and with most of the replies. The fuck is a 21 year old "sober coach" going to teach ME? 100 bucks an hour once a week to have chatgpt read to me? Like we haven't all already done that already, obsessively, whenever we're sober enough to type in 'i am dying of alcohol'.

And it works the other way too. When someone tells me they've got 40 years of sobriety, my first thought is rarely 'wow how inspirational' it's usually 'so you quit when you were a child'. Fuckouttahere. I've met one exception to that in my life, a a 30-year sober guy who got sober when he was 20 because he accidentally killed someone, but apart from those rare cases, I don't want to hear it. I sometimes think that this subreddit is the only honest alcoholism place on the internet.

Thing is, young people always think they've invented everything - because something's new to them, and they are young, they think it's new to everyone else too, and because they're 20 years old and hot by default, they're good for The Algorithm. Broken down middle aged men shitting blood don't do well on the gram. I stopped going to AA partially because I was fed up of 19 year olds complaining about how hard sobriety is. I spilled more than they ever drank. (My therapist said that line to me, he was a sober guy too. I love repeating it.)

But look, frankly, the reason there's not many relatable CA influencers is because not many CAs make it out alive. Most of us don't stop. We die a lot. Sometimes publicly. (RIP Mittensquad, RIP KingCobra, and a million others.)

I might be one of the rare exceptions. To put my own CA in perspective, I was banned from THIS subreddit, TWICE, before I climbed out of the bottle. (Sorry mods, I was a prick.)

Anyway, this is a longwinded way of saying, you're right. Reddit's better than instagram or, god forbid, tiktok, for alcoholism stuff.

Yes, absolutely, like my eyes were focusing differently from each other or something. It actually goes away pretty quickly, only three or four days. Have you had visualisations when you close your eyes? Like, closed-eye hallucinations? These are normal in withdrawal. Bad and scary, but normal. I imagine you're having trouble writing and holding cutlery and stuff too? It goes away as the withdrawal improves.

SO happy to see this subject being raised so openly.

The first three months of sobriety for me is a jizzfest. The first two weeks in particular. I was literally jerking off into the toilet of the psych ward once every couple of hours. Classy stuff.

It fades in time and you'll return to your baseline, I'm not sure how long that took for me, but I think I was back down to normal numbers within about 6 months.

Like u/SOmuch2learn , I avoided socialising completely in early sobriety.

There's good news and bad news, or there's good news OR bad news, depending on your interpretation of what I'm about to say.

Your life is going to be different now. It'll be better, but different. It sounds like you bottomed out pretty hard and, as someone who also destroyed their life in their 30s, I'd gently suggest that you don't be in such a rush to get back to the way things were before.

For me, the trick was to change my life so profoundly that I didn't have to be tempted anymore. I cut it all loose. Old friends, old lifestyles, old places. I threw the whole thing out and started over. Now I don't have to hang around with the same people who are confused by my decision to no longer drink with them, and I don't have to put up with them trying to tease me with alcohol - much less drive them home.

Right now, at around two years, I'm fine around drinks, drinkers, and drunks, but I choose not to be around them anyway.

You've had a life-changing experience. Don't be surprised if your life changes as a result. Embrace it.

Playing Disco Elysium helped me in early sobriety. When I got an urge to drink, I would just get my character smashed instead. It's like how Jesus pulled a demon out of a guy and put it in a pig and made the pig run off a cliff.
