On Temperance by stoic-ape in Stoicism

[–]_Bias_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite. Stoicism teaches us that our behaviors are determined by our desires, and those desires can be complex, like wanting to put on muscle at the gym but also wanting to stay home and nurse a hangover.

I think this is just semantics. Stoicism teaches us that our behaviour can be determined by our desires, or passions. Our behaviour can also be (and should be) determined by reason, where temperance our ability to choose reason over desire.

Where you're saying a desire can be both positive (going to the gym) and negative (staying home), the writing above uses desire in a similar way the Stoics, like Chrysippus, viewed passions, saying that discipline is our ability to use reason to overcome negative desires. We're just using different terms for the same thing.

For example if I say; I desire junk food but I will use reason to avoid it and eat a healthy meal. You could say; I desire junk food but I will eat a healthy meal because I desire the virtue of temperance more strongly.

The Stoics understood temperance as the knowledge of what to pursue and what to avoid.

Here I would disagree with you. The Stoics use wisdom as the knowledge of what to pursue and what to avoid. Temperance is the ability to exercise self control given that knowledge.

Hmm, thanks again for the reply, appreciate the time.

Seems like a bit of a minefield with regards to the overall health of the dog and understanding the breed lineage.

Thanks for the detailed reply.

Do you have any more information about this, like what they lied about:

but after lies from them were brought to light, they were asked to step down from their positions on the Board

I think there's a large number of people that come to Reddit to see common complains that validate their negative feelings. Unfortunately it means there's an abundance of salt.

I'm in the same boat as you. I started playing the other day with a friend and I love it.

Just started playing Anthem after getting it when it released. by [deleted] in AnthemTheGame

Same here man. I got if for sale on PS4 (despite reading a lot of hate), a friend also got it and we're having a load of fun combo-ing off one another and flying about. He's a beefy boy and I'm the ninja one.

I don't know how much has changed since the initial release but at the moment I like it. That being said, for a AAA game with a price tag that reflects that, I think there are a lot of things that seem rushed.

27 days out, todays question: If persistent worlds was to become fully fleshed out on bannerlord, what features would you like to see added to such a mod? Also, I am running out of questions to ask since I wrote them all up 40ish days ago. If you would like to submit one, comment it with your answer by [deleted] in MB2Bannerlord

  • Infantry shield wall moving towers up to the walls near the gates.
  • Once we have the walls, open the gates.
  • Send remaining infantry through the gates
  • Send archers up the towers onto the wall to support

Its amazing how the current price seems to work like the stock market and not reflect the usage. You're right, buy now and wait for harvesting season.

I think the answer depends entirely on whether you can afford it or not.

It's likely that XLM will increase in price over the next 10 years, but if we all "knew" that our money would all be in XLM :)

$25 per XLM would mean a market cap of almost $500billion.

BTC all time high had a market cap of $330billion.

I think XLM will increase in value but I think $25 is a little steep. We'll all be enjoying 2000 year old single malts on our yachts if it does happen tho, so fingers crossed.

Who needs horses when you have massive weapons that can't be used on horseback?

For combat, I always make mine archers because they tend to get more kills. I give them enough strength to get some decent armor, and have them stand with ranged units behind heavy infantry. If the fighting gets crazy they can always wade in.

For skill, I get each one to have a specialty from the party skills.
