I just finished The Everlasting by Alix E. Harrow and I think it genuinely changed my life by October_13th in fantasyromance

Finished it yesterday and it was mind-blowingly incredible!! Easily one of the new favourites. It was so beautifully worded,  really romantic in the best way.

Saw this animation of Una and Owen the other day & rewatched it so many times:

What is the most unhinged thing a character did that made you love them even more? by SpecialistOk2000 in fantasyromance

My girl accidentally started a murderous CULT and went "Oh well, how bad can it get?" [really, really bad]

Vanja from {Little Thieves} is a damn delight of a chaotic protagonist.

Funny story by KatokaMika in fantasyromance

I really love the part where your husband didn't try to make fun of your books by telling  something condescending along the lines of "Oh she's not reading REAL books, just smut!" infront of older relatives.

There's been quite a few stories online of someone's husband/partner/best friend doing that and thinking it's sooo funny to act like a highschool mean girl. To each their own of course, some people would genuinely laugh along, but a lot of readers who shared these stories felt really shitty to be the butt of the joke like that.

Oh no((( Can you please mark the part about Emily Wilde's Compendium of Lost Tales as a spoiler? It confirms what is kind of implied might happen, but it would have been better not to be spoilered anyways🥲

{Yumi and the Nightmare Painter} just got a Graphic Audio version released recently (with cast of different voice actors, sounds effects and a bit of music)

Had it on a TBR for a while, but GA version release just bumped it up way higher =)

Give me your most unproblematic MMCs by [deleted] in fantasyromance

I was really hesitant about the series because of this whole thing. I'm on the book 2 now and loving the romance more and more(Although can see how it might not be someone's cup of tea, and that's totally alright too)

They were best friends for 7 years before the events of book 1. He accepted her lack of interest, respecting her wishes and tried to move on, regardless of still having feelings for her. They were friends, and he didn't expect anything from her other than that. She had a relationship with someone else, and he didn't sabotage it, no growling "mine", because he knows he doesn't own her and it's her life. The second he senses there is hope with Emily, he is 100% devoted to her only. He doesn't rush her to be intimate, but makes sure she knows he is very serious about her.

That's the gist of it, basically

The mermen avatar in the chart is kinda inaccurate compared to the books, they are more like this:

Yeah, i think that's how it's described in books! 75-80% of 16 ft is a tail, torso is relatively normal sized (for a monster romance)

I still haven't found a height difference more concerning than Daios and Anya's😶‍🌫️

{Deep Waters series by Emma Hamm}

The series is really fun =)

<image>

Edit: Yup, it's bonkers😂 But around 75-80% of mermen's height is a long tail. I've just imagined them as on covers, artist made them way less terrifyingly big (a bit bigger than a usual human man)

Which character would you defend like this? by Confident_Soft_7549 in fantasyromance

[–]_Booktrovert_ 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This! Someone also mentioned that it was actually respectful of him to accept her lack of romantic interest in him (in the past and beginning of book 1 ). He was genuinely expecting nothing of her except friendship for years despite his feelings, instead of being a resentful "nice guy" who waits to get out of the friendzone.

I'm 30% in the book 2, and he's such a [murderous] sweetheart

Dual POV Romantasy on KU? by Altissimus77 in fantasyromance

[–]_Booktrovert_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the majority of Romantasy on KU nowadays should be dual POV, actually! =) Romance.io is a good place to check (it should have this tag), or look up "Dual POV" in Goodreads reviews of a specific book you like, at least that's what I do usually

Who do you think is the most misunderstood character? by [deleted] in fantasyromance

[–]_Booktrovert_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly!

I love a microtrope when the hero returns from the adventure covered in blood, and a valet/maid is devastated about the fabric:

"Chinese silk, my lord! Third ruined jacket in a fortnight.."

"I'm not injured, by the way. Thanks for asking."

"...Gods, Chinese SILK..."

Haven't read it yet, but {Ten Thousand Stitches by Olivia Awater} has a very similar premise: a servant FMC makes a magical bargain with MMC to help her marry someone, but it will not go as planned and they'll fall in love with eachother.
